A local rebuilder did my 400 tranny. Didīnt work as supposed very soft shifts+a delay in the 2-3 shift. Went back with it he found a broken snap ring+black dirt in the pan.

The delay is gone but still shifts soft can barley feel the 1-2 shift and 2-3 is almost imossible to feel.

Told the builder I wanted a jakeshoe valve body kit(had parts and instructions from jake) but he told me the plate in my tranny was rusty so he installed a JW shiftkit instead.

Bought a Transgo reprograming kit and started to remove the pan and valvebody. Still was some black dirt in the pan. maybe from the torque converter? Tried it first with with a used Hughes converter but changed later to a 9.5" from Edge.

Shall I install the Transgo kit as is or do some more mods to make it shift firm? Like blocking 2-3 accumulator? If I block the 2-3 acc shall I also remove the spring?
Hpw large shall i drill the feed holes? .125?

The kit i removed had very large feed holes. there was 3 checkballs how many is common to run? The Transgo kit says 5.

Found some odd looks like solder between the channel in vb and a threaded hole hard to see on pictures.

What about the dirt is it something to be worried about? And is there other mods except the ones the shift kit makes to get firmer shifts?

That is not dirt that is clutch material from the fresh clutches and if slipping burned clutch material. See that in every transmission.

in some cases a real loose converter will make the shifts "soft" at low rpms, but you should still feel them a little crisp-what about when you hit it hard, does it feel better

Yes, hopefully some left from the old tranny in the first converter that was used. The rebuilder told me everything were like new when he replaced the broken snapring, but who knows? Iīm starting to doubt him. Has drove it like 200 miles after the rebuild.

Nope doesnt feel better when I hit hard. Just trying another shift kit as a last chance. Probably going to have another rebuilder look over it?
