Still searching for the right block and price here. It's become my second priority now that im full into getting my body and paint on the move. No more talk all action from here! But as for this block. I will be building a 496. I found another guy on Ebay which sells alot of engines good feedback thats all no problem. He has 2 454 blocks right now, one is .30 over for $400 and another standard bore for $300. My question: Which would be better, they would both need machine boring. Would it be less expensive for the first block since its already .30 over? Or is that just silly? I wouldnt think so, but Ive got to ask! Thanks graemlins/beers.gif
Go with the standard bore and take it .030 over. That way, if you ever need another bore job later on, there is still enough cylinder wall thickness to do so. If you start with the other block, you may need to take it .060 over to start with. That may not leave enough room later on for another bore. Why is one $100 cheaper than the other if they both need a bore job??
That is my $.02

If you are building a 496 you will have to bore to 60 anyway

Yeah Im just wondering what the price difference to get the machine work done between .30 over versus .60 over?

Why would someone selling 2 blocks. 454 .30 over for $400 and a standard for $440? Eh...

I dont believe it would cost more to bore it larger, I asked my machine guy that question last year, and he said same price for either.
