I have a problem. i bought a parts car from a wrecking yard about 5 months ago, finally parted it out. it has a title on the car and paperwork (builtsheet etc etc) but i dont have the ownership. i ran the VIN and it says its clean. how is it possible for me to get the title legally in Ontario? it says the last owner was from 1982, and tried to find him, but its like a needle in a hay stack, would i have to go through the courts to get it?

any help would be great thanks!

If you want a title to your car see if the licence bureau near you has a notary. A notary can legally write an affidavit for ownership and then you need to swear that you are the sole and rightful owner to the car. You will need an appraisal for value from a car lot for tax purposes and a description of the car, year make model colour etc. and the VIN number. The place I used accepted a paper rubbing done with a lead pencil, but I think a digital picture of the VIN on the dash would also work. The door sticker will not though, as the door could have been changed.
