My combo runs real good and pulls to 6000+ easily.
Maybe I'm just nuts but I think theres more to be had out of a big-block 4-speed. I was expected more to be honest.

My passengers are always fear-striken when I blast around town. Maybe just being in the driver's seat and in control makes it seem not as fast graemlins/clonk.gif

CR is low for the power your looking to get. A bigger cam would not help, gears are high, would go to 373's for some neck snapping power! What are your ET's? :D

Oh yeah, I would add an 850dp. with those 3.73's to realize signicant power increase! :D

Come on...3.31's aren't that bad!!

oh yea, I also have taller rear tires. There are 15" wheels - I forgot the exact height. I wanna say 26"?

This things rev's high as it is - I'd hate to make it even worse.

Do you intend on taking your car to the track? Do you want to scream past 6000rpm on the street? For the street, your have a great combo! For the track step up the gears and go with 850dp. like I said! Does that clarify it a little better?! :D

I do agree bigger is better!!

Not a track car, just street. But I do like raising some hell sometime - we'll, all time :D :D

A 396 doesn't need an 850 DP. My old Super Street car ran better with an 800. It had a .060 396 5000 convertor and 488 gears. Unless you want to change the whole combo from a good street car to a not real good for the track or the street leave it alone. At 6000 RPM it should live forever.

Nothing wrong with 3.31's...my old 71 442 clone clicked off an 11.96 with 3.31 gears, thru the mufflers,on slicks. For a carb,a 3310 Holley 750 vacuum seecondary will be your best bet.

I broke the rear end in my 70 Monte a couple years ago.....I had another rear in the garage I put in......The one I broke was 373 and the one I put in was 331.....It was a SLUG....373 will help you alot......295/50 tire on the car at that time....Thought you might like the story...Good luck...Scott.
