I've been reading different posts and I'd like to know why certaing fuel pumps, elec or mech, have 1/4" or 3/8" inlet/outlets? I've seen very few with 1/2" inlet/outlets. My question is, if your running a 1/2" line from the tank, then have to make it smaller for the regulator, then back to 1/2" out, then smaller again for the filter, then I guess back to 1/2" out and smaller again for the pump(or reverse if running elec pump) then I guess back to 1/2" again out of the pump then back to an even smaller 5/16"? to hook up into the carb.......doesn't it all affect the flow? I know I made it sound all dramatic and whatnot...but I'm not familiar with fuel line sizes and things, and I'd like to get my information correct. I believe I read that someone only had a 1/2" line from the tank to the regulator, then kept it at a 3/8" line all the way up to the carb. Is this a better set up? And if so, then what's the point of having the 1/2" line from the tank in the first place? What set ups do you guys recommend? When I get my tax money, I'm planning on buying either a Carter or Holley mech fuel pump along with a carb rebuild kit. Which fuel pump do you guys recommend? It'll be going on my 388ci, approx 420hp at the flexplate, daily driver...if you need more info just let me know and I'll post it....TIA! graemlins/beers.gif

From what I understand of flow dynamics, what you really want to get to your carb is fuel volume. Pressure is just a by-product of how much fuel flows through what size line. The 1/2" line provides more fuel to the pump at any time. This then provides more fuel for when you stomp on the gas. I have seen this many times on some of my friends' trucks with air bags - same principle. Good luck. graemlins/beers.gif
And let us know how the summit kit works, it seems like a good deal. Anyone use their pumps before?

Are we confusing 1/4 or 3/8 Female PIPE THREAD size with 3/8 tubing size?
a nominal female pipe thread size is a HUGE threaded hole in relation to the same tubing size.

Well, I hope I don't sound even more confused, but, what I'd like to know is, do you have to change the size of the actual fuel line when the female inlet of the tank is 1/2" the connecting to a 3/8" regulator/fuel filter then to the pump and on up to the carb? Or can you use a 1/2" fuel line from the tank all the way on up to the carb, only difference being the male thread head changing from 1/2" to 3/8" when needed? Sorry if my original post sounded confusing, and/if this one sounds any worse...but thanks again in advance graemlins/beers.gif
