Just finished installing full quarter panel. The seam at the top of the sail panel is a little thick to fill with body filler, or is it? How thick can you go without cracking? Is there something else I can use like epoxy filler?

i just did this his past week. make sure you shoot that seam nice and think with an epoxy primer to seal it up. then use a short strand fiberglass reinforced filler ( i used everglass) and block it down. you can lay it down as thik as you need it. then finish it off with a nice lighweight filler and block it smooth. remember most vinyl top cars had filler in ther from the factory. mine did and it held up great. good luck

Factory used lead to fill there, no reason you cannot do the same.
Do your research - buy the tools and go for it!!

I epoxy primered mine then filled with resin jelly, then more epoxy. Vinyl top to go on so no need for coat of plastic filler but if no VT was going on I'd finish with that.

I agree, i used the lead free rods from eastwood and made up my own tools. I was a little concerned about using filler since i was putting a vinyl top back on, i figured the lead was there for 30 years with no problems. Good luck which ever way you decide to go.Alan

My '70 factory vinyl top car had filler in there - not lead. I used Evercoat's reinforced filler going by the name of kitty hair.

We use all metal filler followed by duraglass and then rage.

I use the steps as Micky, but first coat with epoxy primer, let dry, scuff and then the bodywork. Good luck.

Thanks for all the response. Not sure which way I will go. I would kinda like to try stroking lead just for the fact that no one does it anymore.

I wouldn't get fancy with the lead, especially if I have never done it before. Just get the fiberglass reinforced filler and get it done. You may use the lead, mess it up then have to take it off then use the plastic anyway. Noone will know the difference.
