: Clear Caoting Small Parts

I am using a small touch spray gun to paint small items like the wiper motor, wiper linkage, etc with the same color as the engine bay is (grey). The body shop gave me a small can for things like this. My question is after these items dry is it necessary to clear coat them? If so can I use clear from a rattle can or do I need to go buy some clear and spray them with the touch up gun?

Thanks

Eastwood's clear spray can works great.

Any other that would work, that could be purchased from a parts store?

Thanks

Did they give you base coat (BC) for your grey? If so you must clear it

What I did is primed, then shot the grey and have used clear coat in a rattle can, so I hope that will work.

any parts that see sun ,will deteriorate ! the can clear is crap ! if the parts are all under the hood your ok . your wipers will peel in a couple months .

Jason- I used clear coat for wheels. I would think it would hold up in the sun, maybe others will chime in on this.

Thanks

The can clear is just a lacquer based clear. You will have to put multiple coats to give it some UV protection but spraying it out of a gun with urethane clear with hardener is better.

Larry , maybe consider buying a small jamb paint gun , you can get them for under 20.00 bucks , this way you can buy the good clear from your local paint&body retailer . The urethane grade clear with activator will last years in the sun ,and not degrade. the more clear you apply the thicker it gets and the longer it will last , spray can clear is very very thin ,and degrades quickly .

Good luck

Rattle can clear will NOT be chemical safe. Spill ANY fluids on it and it will eat into the paint.
