: All In Now!! (pics)
454RAT Nov 8th, 08, 5:06 PM Well, How does a simple exhaust mod turn into this. I knew there was a patch panel on the lower drivers side so I decided to replace it. stripped paint on both quarters and of course, rot. The roof panel will be coming off next week. But if you look in the garage, a pair of rear quarters are hanging on the wall, also my new 12 bolt sits waiting to be built.

Xtreme70SS396 Nov 8th, 08, 5:19 PM You know, you could widen the wheel wells while you're at it, too. :D :D
Either way, keep the pics coming as you progress! Love to see how everything comes together.
y72ss Nov 8th, 08, 5:20 PM Man, things sure can snowball in a hurry. Good luck
Stalkingbear Nov 8th, 08, 5:28 PM I'm truly impressed! Great job.
Chicken Coupe Nov 8th, 08, 5:33 PM You know, you could widen the wheel wells while you're at it, too. :D :D
Haven't come across any shelf ready wide ones. Anyone make wider outer inners or is that a self made mod?
And yes, keep us posted. I am about to do the same thing.
Tell us about all the, "I didn't know I'd have to ________________, until I started" points.
454RAT Nov 8th, 08, 5:41 PM I would like to go ahead a make mods to fit 18x12's in the back. There were no signs of rust at the wheel well lips but when I removed the quarters I noticed it would'nt of taken long before rust would have appeared.
How do I remove the bottom of the quarter next to the rocker panel? I'm taking my time around all the spot welds, little bit every day.
I'm seriously entertaining the idea of glueing the quarters and roof on, except for the quarter to roof seam.
Racing Nov 8th, 08, 6:00 PM  I'm having flash backs of previous projects. :beers:
ss396boy Nov 8th, 08, 6:13 PM I foresee my future chevelle project...What were u thinking!!! It looked nice before.
I like the KX250 stand as well. hehe
454RAT Nov 8th, 08, 6:24 PM Thanks, the 4x4's are used on the Chevelle to go under the tires to get it up so I can use the creeper under the car.
I used those cause they were handy, Bike would'nt run worth crap last time out, set up to long, got to take carb apart and clean. To many projects going at one time. Need to ride more often, at 45 yrs old, I feel it more on Mon. mornings.
454RAT Nov 8th, 08, 6:28 PM And good eye on spotting that it's a 250!
1969 El Camino Dan Nov 8th, 08, 8:36 PM Your plate said "BAD A$$ 70" and now we know you weren't joking!!
Rough_Blast Nov 9th, 08, 2:54 AM Is it my imagination, or do you have hot exhaust gases shooting out right below where gas occasionally spills out when doing those forward thrust movements?
spa man Nov 9th, 08, 8:25 AM lookin good!! nice neat cuts. what did you use to make your cuts
454RAT Nov 9th, 08, 8:50 AM Gas tank is gone now, to be replaced with a Fuel Cell in the trunk, that was the only way to get the center exhaust like I wanted it, it will have a flip top cap coming thru the trunk lid like the old Mark Donahoe/Penske Camaro had, I love that look.
I just used a 4" grinder with a 5" cut-off wheel that was about 1/16" wide. I was very careful with it not to go to deep or make radius turns, did that when I was trimming out the new exhaust tip and it exploded on me. Had safety glasses on, but it still stung my hand and cut my leg thru my blue jeans, very dangerous those grinders are.
Trooper Nov 9th, 08, 10:04 AM Looks like your going to have to repair/replace those inners and outers as well as those dropoffs before those quarters can go on. Wow deja vu :)
454RAT Nov 9th, 08, 10:33 AM Do they make replacement drop-off yet, the drivers side is where the patch was and it looks bad, I was waiting to get the spot weld out around the wheel wells to see what it looks like, if its not bad, I'm just going to repair the inners at the lower back with a patch.
Trooper Nov 9th, 08, 10:47 AM Dave, Mine is a 69 which they have dropoffs for. I guess I assumed they had them for 70 as well. That's what I did with my inners as well but a warning the bends on the lower patch panel for those inners are far from sharp and need some major tweeking. I ended up replacing the outers. Mine were good except for the back lower corners. I tried to cut this portion off of a replacement and patching it in but thier conture wasn't even close to the originals where I had to seam them together. Will have to buy another outer and replace the whole thing.
454RAT Nov 9th, 08, 11:02 AM Thanks for the info, I found where Goodmark makes the drop downs. The outers in the back is where I plan on making the patch, I just can't see replacing the whole thing just for this piece. That is if the wheel lip is good of course. I've got to keep this cost from skyrocketing more than it already is.
