: Top 10 Murphy's Laws of Leaf Blowing
Chicken Coupe Nov 8th, 08, 4:05 PM In tribute to watching my neighbors over the last few hours.
10-The only day you have time to do your leaf blowing will be the windiest in months.
9-Which ever way you need to blow the leaves, the wind will be blowing in the opposite direction. If you can devise a way to overcome that, the wind will change direction.
8-Most of the leaves will fall from the trees the day after you finish.
7-If you have no trees, the wind will always blow all of the neighbor's leaves into your yard. Attempts at returning the leaves to the neighbors will result in arrest.
6-If you run out of fuel, there will be lines at the gas station and there will be no 2 cycle oil left in the state.
5-Any attempt at raking the leaves by hand will cause the rake and handle to separate.
4-If you succeed at collecting all of the leaves into nice neat piles, you will not be able to find the tarp you need to drag them off into the woods and all of the yard waste bags you had were used for Halloween costumes.
3-The rate that leaves fall from the trees will be equal to or greater than the rate they can be removed.
2-If you use bare hands to pick up big bunches of leaves you will find squishy dog poop.
1-And last but not least, when you finally conquer this mighty task your Wife will tell you she used the last beer in a recipe.
(Which is why I'm on my computer writing this silly post instead of leaf blowing)

70isfine Nov 8th, 08, 8:28 PM What do you call a guy with no arms or legs in a pile of leaves?
pdq67 Nov 8th, 08, 8:29 PM I just use my split-end mulch blade equipped Lawn Boy push mower that I installed a 5hp B&S 4-stroke engine on and have at the leaves!
But I read you loud and clear!! He, He!!

Sid Coleman Nov 8th, 08, 10:45 PM People actually rake leaves???
Oh if i only had trees for that to be a problem!
My old boss would fill up the back of his pickup with all the leaves he collected, then drive away from his house, slowly for the 1st mile, then pick up speed :)
Truer words were never spoken. We live at the edge of woods and have leaves out the wazoo every year. Days were spent blowing them into piles on a tarp and carrying said tarp loads down into the woods. Finally last year I bought a mulching kit for the lawn tractor. This saves SO much work. Just have to stay after it every couple of days when they're falling but riding around on the tractor beats the hell out of blowing, raking, hauling, etc.

Isn't mulching the leaves good for the grass; the next year?

You have to love the neighbor who starts blowing leaves at 7-8am.
marooned Nov 9th, 08, 8:56 AM I just bought this, mulching 48" deck and Snow blower, I haven't bagged since 1998 no more!
Derek69SS Nov 9th, 08, 9:45 AM I mulch them into grass-food.
My neighbor has been spending every day for the whole week bagging his leaves. I haven't done squat. We got 2" of snow, and you can't tell the difference between his lawn and mine. l:)

DZAUTO Nov 9th, 08, 12:09 PM I'm sorry, I'm lost here.
WHY do you blow leaves??????????????
About every 2-3 time that I mow, I use the gas edger to go around the drive, sidewalks, patio, then mow with a mulching mower, blow the left over grass off of the sidewalks, drive and patio, put the mower away and I'm done. If there were any leaves in the yard, the mower gets them.
No leaf blowing.
Come next spring, I start all over again.
LS_5 Nov 9th, 08, 12:33 PM Leaves are why God invented pine and evergreen trees! Also kills the grass and weeds under them - a double benefit! ;) :D
70isfine Nov 9th, 08, 2:40 PM hard to mow them when they are up to your knees!
Chicken Coupe Nov 9th, 08, 2:45 PM I was thinkin the same thing!
68KMENO Nov 9th, 08, 2:52 PM its all in the method ....... first use the KILLER straight shaft weed eater leaves a nice 12"path around the outside edge , then run the edger for anything the weed eater might have missed , next run the blower to stack all the trimmings & leaves into the center of yard .... then break out the Rear baggier lawn tractor ... dump in compound post heap where wife's garden will be next year ...... :D
OH before starting this project fill ingloo ice chest with favorite adult beverage an hide it in garage ..... so wife doen't use it in some stupid receipt ;)
hard to mow them when they are up to your knees!
Yep, that's why you have to stay after them. Can't just wait and do it once.
Calibu Nov 10th, 08, 8:41 AM Gotta stop the leaves at the source. Cut the trees down.
no1dc Nov 10th, 08, 6:22 PM I wait until I've got a north west wind preferably 20+mph. I mow the yard blowing the leaves into the street. Said leave clippings end up at the end of the street in my doctors yard and my wife's principles yard. As an added bonus if the winds just right I can also deposit them across the street in my attorneys yard. And who said "racking" leaves isn't any fun :D Pete
