Hey guys, i'm kind of afraid to ask this due to the knowledge on this board and my lack of knowledge when I built it, but heres my engine combo, will you guys let me know, good or bad, if I should change something or is it o.k. So far the motor seems real strong and runs out real nice, but maybe it could be better.
454 + .060
stock crank and rods with arp bolts
10.1 :1 hyperuetectic domed pistons
990 heads with mild clean-up work and port matched
2.19/ 1.88 valves with comp springs
comp solid roller 243/243 @.050 .622/.622 lift
holley strip dominator intake
speed demon850 mechanical secondaries
mallory unilite distributar w/ msd digital 6 plus
currently th-350 with 2800 stall switching to 700r4
12 bolt 3.73 :1 posi rear
any advice will be appreciated thanks

Go ahead and run it - the dragstrip will reveal all! Sounds like a fun combo to me - my only suggestion is good tires like Drag radials or E.T. Streets.

you have almost the same engine as me - things look good! i don't know much about solid rollers, but i think that i'm pushing the limit as far as my cam goes and how much compression i'm running. i think i'm maxed there. take a look:

.060 over 454 (~468)
stock GM oval ports (049) w/ 2.19/1.88 valves
SRP race pistons (forged) w/ TRW forged rods
10.1:1 compression
GM steel crank

Comp304HR (hydraulic roller):
244/244 @ .050" | .612/.612 intake/exhaust
1.7 roller rockers

Hughes 11" stall (3500)
TH400 w/ overdrive
3.90 gears

Thanks guys, yeah I have hoosier quick times on it. The last time I went done the drag strip I cracked a piston on the original 454 that was in it, which is what led to this new engine, so I'm a little gun shy of the drag strip now. I'm waiting until later in the year to run it down the 1/4 so if I break it again I have all winter to fix it this time. By the way four oh two do you have any numbers that your combo runs or is capable of? Just like to have an idea of what its good for, but like I said it will make it to the strip yet this year, it better anyhow, its only 3 miles from my house.
thanks for the advice, Jeff
