Hey guys...as I am driving down the road I get this grinding noise. Feels like its coming from the Trans or where the trans meets the driveshaft area. It happens in revolutions...like the driveshaft will make a complete turn and then the noise happens....repetively....

Think it could be my u joints? If im going at a faster speed around 60mph it smoothens out and gets quieter...but when im going about 40-45 its loud....yet the car runs fine and shifts fine...can anyone help me diagnose this?

Gracias

Get it up on jack stands under the rear axle housing with the tires well off the floor, to let the axle stay in the normal relationship to the body, and look all along the driveshaft/floor pan for potential rub areas. look for a shiny rub mark in the driveshaft. Have you added any new consoles, shifter boot, or driveshaft loop etc., where you screwed or bolted something to the floor and the attaching hardware is touching the driveshaft? Don't ask why I mention that. If you don't see anything that way, you may need to start it put it in gear and listen for the noise from underneath. It may be ujoint noise, but they usually start with a pinging noise and then go to a vibration at all speeds - check them though. Good luck.

Sounds like a u joint to me. If it is making that much noise it probably is not long for this world. Get underneath and see if it has any slop in the u joint or you could jack up both rear tires and spin your rear wheels by hand to narrow the noise down.

I put her up on the jack last night and started it, put it in drive, but you couldnt hear it....it doesnt happen until higher speeds...starts at around 35mph. There was a little slop turning the drive shaft...maybe about 1/4 inch....

I will get under it tonight and see if anything is rubbing...the guy I bought it from installed a B & M Ratchet shifter on the floor.....I wont count it out.

any other ideas?Sounds like you just need to start taking it apart and looking for the supprise.
Thats what I would do before a major mishap happens to something under your car and costs much more to fix.
