yesterday I went 9.89 @ 135 mph with my 40 over 400 (2bolt) I made 595 hp at the wheels (apx. 750 flywheel) I drive this on the street ever week and never had a problem (been running this block for 9 years, with this build up for 3 years).
I may be lucky? but have had 10 plus nitrous runs in the 9's and over 100 in the 11.3-11.6 range.....

BC I would love to read about your complete combo. I too am building a SBC 400, but for a daily-driver and for max low-end grunt.

You should post your combo here: http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=011400#000000

Thanks!!!

I'm doing the same. By using the 288/308 roller cam from GM (#14097395) with massaged Vortec heads and an air-gap intake, you'll pull 520lb ft of grunt out of that small block. (my 468 is just gathering dust now)

(my 468 is just gathering dust now) I have two main issues holding me back with this motor. First and foremost is Cali SMOG. I am building this motor to replace my stock/weak 160HP 350 in my '86 K5 Blazer. Second, since the motor is going to be used in a 5500LBS truck and it will never see above 5000RPM.

After its all said and done I just wanna have enough torque to smoke all 4's in 4-High from a stop light (if I felt like it).

The truck already has 4.11 front/rear gears, factory posi (Gov-Loc??), 33x12.5x15" A/T's on 15x10" M/T Classic II's, and a beefed up 700R-4.

Just be careful trying to spin all four wheels.
I have a 86 K10 pickup in my drive with the front
and rear axles shelled out of it from someone
doing that exact same thing.
I did buy it that way, I have a set of front and
rear ends that I am going to put under it.
Have you gotten a set of caps yet?

Guys,

We have been having great success with 2 bolt 400s. Never on the spray or anything just all motor. But we are getting some VERY respectable times. I just went a new of:

1.48 60'
6.09 1/8
11.02@121MPH in full weight cars!

I just had my 400 2 bolt block set up with billet splayed caps..total price for the conversion was..400 to set caps and align bore/hone drill and tap splayed holes(blind tap) 89.00 ARP studs(for winage tray) 89.00 for billet caps...so its a 600.00 option...would I do it again???...dunno..lol
