Harold i'm looking to run the 268 voodoo cam in my 408 big block and wondered if it would be alright if I used crane springs Part #99839, 90# seat and 280 open. Thanks Kevin.

Kevin,

It may run just fine with that pressure, although I'd prefer 100# on the seat and 295-300# open.
In a small block using Vortec heads with stock springs, 80# seat, 200# open, we were all amazed when the VooDoo 256 hit the dyno's 6200 RPM cut-off! The VooDoo 268 has the identical opening and closing ramps......
Remember the BBC has much heavier valves....

Thanks for your reply Harold. I already had the springs and was hoping I could run them. I'm looking forward to running one of your new cam designs. Take care, Kevin.

Harold I was doing some thinking and was wondering if I should go to the 262 grind. My combo is a 408 big block with around 9.5 comp., 750 holley, performer rpm intake, headers, oval port heads, manual tranny, and either 3.42 or 3.55 gears. I ran your 280/288 in it with 4.10 gears and it ran strong and had a choppey idle. I had some oil problems and am going through it and was wondering if the 268 might be to big since I'm dropping the gears a little. I want a strong street driven car with a rough idle and was wondering how the 262 idled. Thanks again, Kevin.

Kev- why are you switching away from the 280/288? What are you unhappy with? You are running the same combo I am in the process of assembling except I have a turbo 350 trans. I am trying to decide between the 280/288 or the 268 voodoo. I am running 3.55 gears. Give me some thoughts on how yours performed please.

I'm switchin because I had the oil problem and am going go through the engine untill I can get the money saved to build up a 454. So I didnt want to take any chance with the cam in case it might have had premature wear. Now that Harold has his new cam designs out I would like to try one and I am also going to run the Lunati microlube lifters for added insurance. I was impressed with how well the cam pulled and so where the people that rode in it. If Harold didnt come out with the new cams then I wouldve went back to the 280/288 or maybe the 276/286 since I'm dropping the gears down some to make it more streetable. Going down the highway at 3 grand was getting a little old and with the 2.56 first gear I was shifting to second as soon as I took off from first. I'm undecided between the 262 and 268 but leaning more to the 268 unless Harold thinks the 262 would work better and have a decent rough idle.

Kev- I would sure appreciate an email with how you feel about the one you choose and how it performs. I am really debating about the same thing. If you can I would be grateful! When are you planning on installing it?
Either way- Good luck!

I'll have it going in spring and hopefully I'll be able to enjoy it all year this time. I've worked on this car for 7 years to get it driveable again and only enjoyed it for a month because of engine problems. I'll let you know how it goes and good luck on yours also.

One more thing, Harold would getting the 262 ground on a 110 lsa give me a little rougher idle as compared to the 112? Thanks, Kevin.

Kevin,

A LSA of 110 would give a little rougher idle, a little more around 5000, and about 1" less vacuum.
We tested the 262 in SBCs on 108, 110, and 112 LSAs, and they all worked very good. We picked the 112 because it was a little more EFI-friendly.

Thanks Harold I was thinking I was better off with the 262 since it's gonna be a street driver. I had your 280/288 in it and it was pretty rough. I was just wondering with the mild duration if it would have a little lope to it. I'll go ahead and get it ground on a 110. Thanks, Kevin.
