Joe Y Jan 11th, 05, 1:00 AM It's a supra, it'll have 1200hp and it'll still only go 11s. ;)
j/k, looks nice!
ovelle Jan 11th, 05, 1:30 AM i like the wing
300hp Jan 11th, 05, 1:35 AM actually last year it had about 800rwhp and ran 10.6 at 140. that was when it was 6 speed. he is putting in a th400 and a 4500 stall with a trans brake. he says a simalar supra with a 3L ran 8.7s @ mid 160s. my freind has one up on him with a crower 3.3L stroker kit.
69 Ratt Vette Jan 11th, 05, 1:44 AM Still a Supra graemlins/sad.gif I would rather drive a 14 second Vette or Chevelle.
Not trying to be a %$# just don't like rice burners, even if they are fast.
Jinks Jan 11th, 05, 2:09 AM at least supra's are RWD.. Nice rice if you ask me. Id drive one smile.gif
feedphillipnow Jan 11th, 05, 4:04 AM Whats the cost on one of those? Like mainly drivetrain... etc. Sounds like a zippy quick little car!
mike1985 Jan 11th, 05, 8:54 AM Not a bad car, but i really like the background in that pic.
we have a guy local to us that made 975 RWHP on the chassis dyno with his. turbo and nitrous. I watched him make several 10.5 @ 148 MPH passes last year with the stick and 26X10 et streets.
As for it being rice, I don't care, the way i see it is our local track ( 6 miles from my house) is still open and running because so many of these guys run their cars there and help support the sport of drag racing.
Ever thought about taking a $500 honda civic , gutting it to 1500 lbs and spraying it with a 200 shot just to see what would happen ? I have. LOL:)
300hp Jan 11th, 05, 10:30 AM these cars cost WAY too much money, i dont reall like rice cars either but there are exceptions. like this car, all stock on the outside, stock wheels, no ugly wing, no body kits, no grahpics.
Chevyhouse Jan 11th, 05, 11:12 AM My sig says it all. But the way I see it, Supras are not rice. Those cars make great horsepower and are rear wheel drive. I think rice burners are those kids with the Civics, Lancers and Eclips that put all the "cool" body kits on their cars to make them look fast. A waste of time, money and tires if you ask me. Any car with a 4 banger, even if it is fast, is rice, better yet, pozers. All others are imports. I still like torque mot than horsepower. I like the feeling of stomping on the gas and having my neck snap back of idle than haveing to wait for the turbo to spool, and by then, you're doing 65 in a 45 and the red and blues start to follow you. The bottom line is that low end torque is the best. I'd take 500ftlbs@2300rpm than 500hp@7000rpm.
Pony Hunter Jan 11th, 05, 1:36 PM Fast is Fast, Fun is Fun. Fast is fun. Hight 8's, low 9's is fast. That's gotta be one fun little Toyscrota.
-SS454- Jan 11th, 05, 2:34 PM Well Chevyhouse almost had it right. Rice is the guys that put crazy wings and stupid body kits on their cars to make it look fast. This car is bone stock on the outside, including the wing. Personally I actually like Supra's better with a body kit and a different wing, and different rims. But any car with a 4 banger is NOT rice. A lot of you might not like it cause its japanese, or whatever, but dont call it something its not.
As for high 8s, good luck with that, but I wouldnt hold my breath. Supra's arent known for their short-times. But even solid 9s is nothin to sniff about, definitly one fast ride.
BowtieAaron Jan 11th, 05, 2:39 PM 300...are those wings stock? all the vids and Supras i have seen all had those wings on them. was just wandering.
sounds like a a wicked ride, and can u say. HOLY TURBO! hehe. that thing is huge.
i may not like imports, but their are a few, that are sweet, those style Supra's, the AWD DSM's, old 87-89 Conquests, and the RX7's. You cant forget about the good old Turbo Dodges, hehe.
aaron
BoostedLT5 Jan 11th, 05, 2:53 PM Awesome lookin Supra and one of the only imports I'd consider buying (Along with an RX-7, Nissan 240, and Skyline, if we could get em here in the US) I am glad to hear that there are some people here with open minds that respect what these cars can do instead of just laughing them off as another ricer.
P.S. Check out supraforums.com for some cool vids and more info on these cars if you are interested.
BB_Mike Jan 11th, 05, 3:03 PM That turbo is so huge it almost looks photoshopped. Does he have to spray it just to spool up?
If those cars could last with a transbreak we would see a lot more on the pro-street circuits.
I'd modify one if I had one. But I'd rather build another classic car instead.
Nickel333 Jan 11th, 05, 3:21 PM Yeah, i hate import cars fast or not. BUT on the flip side, 1,200 hp is impressive no matter where it comes from. The only problem with those motors is their power curve isnt really a curve its more of a sharp parabola!! It will be fast none the less
Twilightoptics Jan 11th, 05, 5:14 PM I love it when imports go with GM products !!
"he is putting in a th400 and a 4500 stall with a trans brake."
graemlins/thumbsup.gif
19Nova72 Jan 11th, 05, 8:26 PM That car could smoke my ass! He has my respect, but I still don't understand why you would wan't to own something like that. When I look at the engine compartment, and imagine working on it, it actually looks like WORK! When I look at a nice, clean, open, V8 engine compartment that has what 2 vacuum lines total; it's more of a "fun" hobby type thing to "work" on. Plus you can go so much faster for so much cheaper with a V8. I do have to admit hat is one bad ass car and for a newer car it does look kinda cool, but personally I would never own one.
300hp Jan 11th, 05, 9:00 PM car should make about 1100 hp at the wheels without nitrous. the turbo is a gt47 88mm on a custom made exaust manifold and 5in full exaust. last year year he got a 1.6 '60 on 315/35 r17 bfg drag radials but twisted the driveshaft in 2 peices at about 100ft. he launches on a 2 step which builds about 15 lbs of boost on his old turbo (pte 76mm).
heres a pic of the driveshaft

slpin Jan 11th, 05, 10:03 PM does that car still have the stock bottom end?
Bob West Jan 11th, 05, 10:57 PM Its impressive, I wonder how many big block chevys you could build for what it costs to make 1200 hp in a Supra???????
JWA Jan 11th, 05, 11:21 PM Is 8 or 9 sec 1/8th mile times? :D Seriously, is there room in the cockpit for the required cage to go as quick as he is wanting go? What about chassis certification, is the stock chassis already certifiable or will it need a bunch of work too? Seems to me while the car was cool in the 10s, the mods he has to do now are going to ruin its street-ability. Lastly it is his money, but IMO he could go quicker with a tube chassis car and prolly get more bang for his buck with a V8 setup. Just like the diesel rail dragster, it may be impressive(to some people) but it isn't something I like smile.gif
427L88 Jan 11th, 05, 11:25 PM Why don't you guys just accept it for what it is and not judge it. It's a race car,no more, no less! COOL!
300hp Jan 11th, 05, 11:28 PM it was on the stock bottom end last year when it ran 10.6@140 and made 808 rwhp, this year it will be a crower rotating assmbly which costs about 7K!!! the turbo was about 2k. the trans, converter, adapter bell housing was about 4k.
the cockpit has plenty of room for all the bars and stuff, it currently has a 6 point bar with swingouts, its getting the full halo added and all the stuff needed to go fast.
there are quite a few of these cars running in the 9s on a stock type chassis with roll cage.
as this car sits with driver it weights over 4000 lbs, still has power windows, power locks, power steering and brakes, COLD a/c, its full interior, no weight reduction done. ive driven this car and it was simply incredible, also it gets 20+ mpg if u drive it normal.
BillsCamino Jan 11th, 05, 11:32 PM Gene's right! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
If you've ever seen some of these cars run, properly setup, they are deceivably fast.
Anything that fast has got my respect.
300hp Jan 11th, 05, 11:37 PM oh and DAILY DRIVEN :D
Ron454 Jan 12th, 05, 2:58 AM Well, sheesh.
I like fast and I appreciate any fast car, Import or not. Those Supras run hard stock. They also cost big $$$$, and I can't even imagine how much is in that car.
If the owner did all the work himself, I applaud the effort!
A local guy has one similar. Massive HP, yet I've never seen it do anthing but blow the tires off no matter what gear he hammers it in. I bet if it ever hooked up, he get scared and lift...I probably would too!
Turbo cars are just simply awesome when well executed. Just look at what GM has done with the FWD Cadavalier in the Sport Compact wars. The Saturn too. Well into the 7's driving the wrong end of the car....with a 4cyl Ecotec.
I can't really say too much, because I race my FWD Olds Quad 4 cars (mid 14's) when I get the chance. Adding a turbo to one of them has crossed my mind.....
Looking forward to getting the real HP out next year though with the 498 Nova.
Nice car that Toyota.....
Ron (who is up too late and can't sleep)
mister_n2o Jan 12th, 05, 4:12 AM mmmm gt47 graemlins/beers.gif thats one hell of a good turbo.
although i drive a velle id take a supra anyday
specially one with that turbo graemlins/thumbsup.gif
MeanStreet Jan 12th, 05, 8:04 AM A pic of a mystery competitors engine http://racepics.net/board/uploads/post-51-1103249299.jpg
300hp Jan 12th, 05, 9:22 AM ^^^^^ very nice ^^^^^
mike1985 Jan 12th, 05, 11:54 AM Anyone ever hear of the Titan Motorsports car ? It runs NHRA sport comp. The driver is Brad P. I was fortunate enough to meet him in person last year. He ran 6.60 @ 212 @ US 131 in testing late last year. The most impressive part was the stock crank and rods, just machined for extra clearance in the bearings. This car runs on Alcahol and runs over 30lbs of boost.
These cars are cool, but as stated above i wouldn't want to work on one. That's why i bought the vette, i never have to lean over a fender to work on it and it has plenty of space.
BoostedLT5 Jan 12th, 05, 12:02 PM For a cheaper Supra you can look at the older MKIII's. There are a few i know of being built that will have about 800hp at the wheels. My friends is on an upgraded stock turbo and put down 355 at the wheels for well under 10 grand and it is perfectly streetable. They can be intimidating to work on at first, but who here doesnt like a challange??? I think that is what makes it fun, but maybe thats just me.
Anthony
19Nova72 Jan 12th, 05, 12:13 PM I'd still rather have 8 cylinders and 2 turbos, maybe 2000hp and 2,800 pounds!? Daily driver, 18mpg? http://community.webshots.com/photo/85194855/137204261zwwSjs The problem with turbos is all that stuff you have to cram into the engine compartment. After college I'ma turbo my Nova and see if I can compete with those Supras.

300hp Jan 12th, 05, 11:16 PM yeah but that same shortblock costs about $4500
19Nova72 Jan 13th, 05, 12:15 AM It seem's there are only a select few import's that you can put that much power into stock parts. Why did they design the Supra bottom end to take 1,000hp!? Will a newer Vette engine even take that much hp? I think the Mitsubishi Eclipse is another good one right?
300hp Jan 13th, 05, 12:26 AM yea a stock 4g63 (mitsu) can take about 450 hp, which is alot for 2 liters. i dont know why the supra motor was built so good but if u look at the bottom end of one, it has h-beam rods with cap screws and its an I-6 so it has a main cap between each cylinder.
SSx3 Jan 13th, 05, 2:01 AM I can appreciate that car. I love turbo power. But its suffering from Supra achilles heel syndrome. What he needs to do after the TH400 stuff is get rid of that IRS stuff so he really plant some power, he's making enough of it (148 mph) but there's way more ET to be dropped :D Its a cool car anyway you look at it.
