: Iron Eagle 180 or 200?, my heads killing me lol
Sk8Crash69 Oct 19th, 04, 11:35 PM Hi Guys, I have been racking my brain with old posts trying to get the best info I can. I decided to go with a set of Dart Iron Eagles from Dirt Track Thunder. I have 350, comp Cams 274xe with a valve lift of .49 and 230 at intake .5 and 236 at exhaust .5... The flow number I have looked at have shown the 180's slacking around .4 and .5 valve lift. I am tring to make the most power I can and she will be driven on the street. Thanks Guys Im trying to get the most info and opinions before I make the purchase. p.s. anybosy with experince with these heads please tell me about them. Thanks again guys.
Slowpoke70 Oct 20th, 04, 12:04 AM I want to know also.
Cammin1 Oct 20th, 04, 12:05 AM Neither imo.
AFR's or the Good Trick flows. Worth the small price increase and much better heads imo.
if i had to choose between the 2, i'dsay the 200cc's if you've got decent compression, headers, and gears. if not then go with the smaller 180cc's.
bigjimzlll Oct 20th, 04, 9:03 AM In an iron head you cant go wrong with IE's. The 200cc is what I would go with...ofcourse, the AFR's are the pick for about 300 bucks more and 8 weeks of waiting. The trickflows(twisted wedge) are OK, but the canted(18 degree) intake requires a special rocker and with lifts over .500 will require piston flycutting.
Georgia69 Oct 20th, 04, 9:22 AM I have the Dart IE180's. With static compression around 9.75, a Comp XE262 cam, 2000 stall, and 3.42 gears, I have gone 13.54 at 99mph in my 69 Chevelle. Race weight with driver 3850. I am planning a bigger cam, 3000 stall, and 3.73 gears over the winter. Hopefully I can go some really low 13's at over 100mph next spring.
Chirp08 Oct 20th, 04, 3:05 PM so if you get the 23 degree trick flows they are a direct bolt on, but the 18 degree ones need machining and other parts?
mike1985 Oct 20th, 04, 4:26 PM I had IE 180cc on my old combo . weiand stealth intake 750VS and 3.07 gears and went 12.76 @107. with 3300 lbs weight. I think their not bad for a street car , but with 350" definatly go with the 180cc and keep comp to 9-1 and run the thing on 89 with your cam. I would recommend the RPM performer too.

The twisted wedge heads(flow much better) only require piston fly cutting when the cam excededs a certain level..I cant remember the exact stats, but they will require a special intake rocker, only made by comp cams I believe.
The twisted wedge heads are basically a 23 degree head with the intake valve rolled to around 18 degrees. I really like the concept, but you dont really hear of them making goobs of power with the racers. I will try them at some point in the future.
Chirp08 Oct 21st, 04, 3:29 PM i dont have the time or ability to get the machine work done to try out the 18 degree heads, however the 23's bolt right up and i think this is one of those performer rpm vs performer air-gap things, either way its an improvement over hte competition.
gearheads78 Oct 21st, 04, 11:52 PM I am very happy with my IE200's. I have had a little port work done so we arent comparing apples to apples. I have not started the tunning process and I have been over 87 MPH in the 1/8th in a 3500 lb car with a very mild 383. They are the best thing I ever did for it.
I would run the 200's either out of the box or with some mild bowl blending. Yopu will have some room to grow if you want to get a little more serious later. The 180's will not let you grow later.
