I've got a 95 350 vortec truck engine. Its a long block bored to 355. Casting #10243880, (95-00 V truck). The plan is to pull the 350 from my 94 K1500 swap out intake, exhaust man., oil pan, timing cover and acc.
Two questions.
1. Will all externals from my 94 bolt up to this 95 block??
2. I have a gasket kit for a 400sb. I know that I need head and intake gaskets but can I use any of the other gaskets on this engine???

Scott,
If your 94 is not a vortec engine ( I am pretty sure it is not) , the intake will not bolt onto the vortec heads. Your intake uses 12 bolts, the vortec only uses 8 and the pattern it totally different :(

"Vortec" is a trade name of GM that's been used on various engines since '85 or so. What we think of as the "Vortec" small-block heads, though, were first used on '96 model year engines.

First Guess: Your '95 uses the older swirl-port heads that are TERRIBLE for performance. Just as BillK said, count the intake manifold bolts--a "desireable" Vortec small-block has 4 bolts per head (8 total) instead of the older 6-bolt per head (12 total) pattern. So, no, the '95 isn't a "Vortec" engine as desired by small-block hot rodders.

If you have 6 intake manifold bolts per head, and center-bolt valve covers--you need different heads, or you better have very modest power expectations. Far as I know the '94 and '95 engines are identical other than perhaps the computer or injection systems--although I haven't researched the differences. (so, yes, everything from the '94 should bolt right onto the '95)

No promises on the 400 gasket set--the oil pan and rear main seal will be different; I think the timing cover gasket is different; the valve cover gaskets won't fit, and the middle two holes of the intake manifold gasket will need to be opened up to fit the angled two bolts on each head...I guess the thermostat gasket is probably the same.
