: LS1 Swap hit the dyno

Took it out for some tuning and dyno time yesterday. I posted this over in the performance section, but figured you would enjoy it more. I was going for 400+ and 20+mpg, I know one of those is off the list. Now I need to see what the fuel economy is like. I know the gas gauge hasn't moved much.

Stock LS1 Bottom end
243 heads stock
custom cam
LS6 intake
85mm MAF
Ported TB
Underdrive pulley
Lt's
3" mandrel bent exhaust with X

Might take it out to the 1/4 sometime soon. I know it needs stickier tires cause traction in 1st and 2nd is limited even with 3.31's. I built it to hit the road course so I need to start working on that as well. Should be fun to drive down at Sebring.

so i should break 500 easily with stage 2 heads from mti, comp cam, with ported throttle body huh i better have 450 at rear wheel or something is wrong.

I have a ported TB and LS6 intake forgot to put it on the list. Breaking 500 rwhp is hard. You should see 450+ with heads. He said his dyno is a little conservative 2-3%, but who knows and I'm not really going for numbers.

I have too much other stuff to do to spend more money on the motor. I need better brakes in a big way, but want to keep my 15" wheels.

LS motors are rocking I love them!
And belong in a ProTouring A-body IMHO.

But
500RW thru even a stick car is hard to do on stock dispacement factory bottom end.
I have seen it done but the motor / cam is soggy below say 4000RPM.
If you want to do every bolt on out there,
Then move up to 12+:1 CR and put a bunch of overlap in it you can do it.

I like the low overlap big lift cam with nice heads on stock short block motors w/ only
450RWHP but 420 avarage TQ from 4000-6400RPM much better for autocross and general street jackassery.
a good avarage TQ 450RW is a heck of a lot of fun. You will be happy!

I have many 500+RW NA LS1/2/6/x under my belt.
But, I know the likes of Tony Mamo, Joe Meja, Brian Nutter.

well mtoro before i bought it from onor car pulled 425 rwhp with heads, cam, and ls6 intake and car was not tune like i think it should have been. since i bought it a friend and i did a blue print rebuild on it with better valve springs old ones where to weak,ls6 intake,a real ported throttle boy not backyard porting, comp cam i need to find spec sheet, new lifters from factory ls6, stage 2 heads from mti, edelbrock long tubes headers, arp head studs (i am just smart for that) arp rod bolts (we know why for that) and a set of new hyper pistons don't wanna go to crazy just yet. looking into using 32 0r 34 lb injectors and a real tune with a day on dyno testing so i can least get 450 rwhp fingers crossed! i just wanted a fresh motor and knowing what i got makes me feel that much better when i open it up :)

Now go drive it around for a while and tell us what the gas mileage is.

Nice numbers. What are the cam specs? How bad is traction?

I don't know about power with mine, but with a bad o2 sensor I still pulled 20+ mpg on my trip from OK to AR, which is uphill and I went WOT at least 6 times

I'm hoping for 370+ hp with mine through the auto

are the 243 heads the ls6 heads?

Lime Green Ford SVO 42s!!
Good to a little over 550RW NA.
Good street injector its on the GT40 times x2 and the Lightning, :-)
Solid injector! Your local tuner should have the offsets and tecnical data for this injector as well.

Yes 243's are LS6 heads. These are off a Z06 so they have the hollow intake/ sodium filled exhaust. The GTO ones have regular valves. The cam is a custom grind 224/244 .600+ lift. Driveability is great, no surging, bucking or anything.

Other parts include:
LS2 timing chain
Ported LS6 oil pump
Cadillac Race Lifters
Hardened pushrods
Patriot Extreme Gold Springs
ARP Head studs
ARP Header studs
GM MLS Head gaskets

Textralia OZ700
Pro 5.0 shifter w/ Lou's Short Stick

Is the 20 degree split a common trend in these engines?

Not really. It is a pretty large split, but these heads lack flow on the exhaust side. It's a one off cam that I had designed and cut for me. Don't really want to spill all the beans on it.
