I need your help finding the right cam for my engine build. My engine is a 357 small block chevy,10:1 compression, crate motor heads(359 casting I believe, and the intake is a Victor Jr. My stall speed will be something close to 3500 rpm's. And my rear gear ratio will be 4:11. The car is a 1979 Malibu and weighs close to 3200 pounds. I need a hydraulic flat tappet cam. I would really love to have a well performing and healthy(lopey) sounding cam. Oh yeah, my exhaust will be 2.5" Thanks for all your help, Nick.

1BAD79BU,

You want a Lunati 301B3LUN. This has been my best-selling hydraulic street-n-strip cam for 22 years, having won on both drag strip and oval track. It IS my most popular 1/4-3/8 mile round track hydraulic.
Specs are 288/296 at .0045", 231/239 at .050", .485"/.507" valve lift, and 108 LSA. I believe this was the inspiration for the CC XE274H cam, and mine still beats theirs.
This cam will need 1/2" gas line all the way to the carb. BHP depends more on your dyno, but we were making 415 about 5800 with stock ported heads back in 1985, on a very conservative dyno. If you want a Westech number, just add 60 BHP to it.
Lunati sells it for around $150, and you will of course need new hydraulic lifters, also.
