I was reading the other posted myth and i felt i need to post my opinion............hmm the adjectives are for those that otherwise would not know what your talking about except for and without insult to exsplain such detail not everyone knows what overlap rod dwell, con/rod ratio bla bla and so on you dont need a 10,000 engine to run 10's or even a 4,000 one if you dont know how little it really takes for honest horsepower you need a insider !I have personally worked on SS Sg,Sp bla bla and seen many dirty old 327's with stock covers running 8.90's if you dont see these guys they will beat you & me for that matter
Chrome and all that shiny stuff does have benifits but yes i agree it marketing = marketing building the same thing to either preform better or look better and they rarely do that but yees of course i had to write this to agree http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Seems to me that what shes getting at is that a well built engine can look like hammered crap and run like a top from here to the moon. Sometimes people thing that with enough doodads and MSD this and billet that and some chrome the can can run 10's on 87 and sit in traffic all day long.

The fun part of bs is that it only exists in someone's imagination. Countless times I have encountered some punk who for unknown reasons felt it was necessary to regale me with his tales of piloting some 8 or 9 second drag car. Upon an interesting line of inquiry on my part the following details come out: 1) it was a friends car he was driving, 2) he has no real idea of any details about the "car", 3) he has no competition license, 4) no idea what the name of the dragstrip was, 5) also no idea if it was an NHRA or IHRA or outlaw track, 6) can't remember if he was wearing any special clothing, 7) and best of all, is not sure now whether it was an 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile dragstrip!

Its kinda like some street challenges were your would be opponent is trying to goad you into laying down some serious rubber, while the vehicle they are challenging you with is their mom's mini van - some guys just want you to take them up on the challenge - hey, just take a look at this topic getting replies!
