I have a 1972 Chevelle (originally 307) with a 2 prong temperature sensor. I have located the two wires that go to it (one green and the other one green with a white stripe on it) but it doesn't have the connector attached to it. Which wire goes to which post on the sensor? I looked everywhere but I can't find a new connector to put on it so I am planning on just putting a little flat post connector on each wire and then connecting them to the sensor.

i don't think it matters- the switch just completes the circuit.

I thought that one is for the TCS and one is for the idiot light.

Correct. I pretty sure it does make a difference which wire goes to what post.

So which wire goes on which post?

That switch is two in one, one grounds when the engine is cold the other grounds when the engine is hot.
The green with white stripe is the TCS connection, it goes on the switch that is closed/grounded when the engine is cold. The green wire goes on the closed/grounded when hot for the temp light.
Connect the green wire to one terminal then turn on the ignition, if the temp light is on it's connected to the wrong switch.
If you have an ohm meter you can check the switch it determine which is closed/grounded when the engine is cold. You can also use a test light, just connect the clip to a hot or + location then check the switch terminals for ground.
