: 66 L78 - $110k?
DaleM Nov 1st, 08, 11:24 AM Worth it? Not in my opinion.
For a "no expense spared" car you'd think they could at least have done the grille extensions correctly and positioned the Limited Slip sticker correctly. :clonk:
Minor items that might slide on a driver. For a $110K car, no.
Meticulous no expense spared frame off rotisserie restoration done by the Country's most well respected Chevelle historians.Wonder who that could be?
A couple other faux pas in the ad copy but I'll leave those to others. :)

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Nov 1st, 08, 1:24 PM No comment on a thousand levels... :secret:Oh Brother, here we go again!! well respected Chevelle Historians?? a line that seems vaguely familiar.. One guy who owns a chevelle hardly makes for Chevelle Historians :clonk:
No comment on a thousand levels... :secret:
You'll be back :D. It does have a best offer option, do you feel lucky, well do ya! From the 5 or 6 photo's  it looks to be a pretty nice car. I like , do I like for a 110K :noway:.
Pete 67 Nov 1st, 08, 2:31 PM Seems like a pretty car, with a great color combo. However with only 5 photos, & no pictures of the interior or the underside, how could one decide?
Still a very nice car. Wish it was mine. :)
Alternator bolt, correct mounting?
floyd66 Nov 1st, 08, 3:10 PM Nice car. Needs to hire a photographer.
Looks like a guy just testing the waters for a little fun.
oldtimebaseballfan Nov 1st, 08, 3:19 PM One would think that a company that is trying to sell a car in that price range might try to get some of the facts straight.
In two different places they show 6 cylinder. I'm sure it is a typo but doesn't anyone care enough to double check the facts. Especially for that price range.
Also, they quote 2100 L78s in 66. It is my understanding there were 3,099 chevelles with the L78.
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Nov 1st, 08, 3:30 PM If anyone was truly interested in such a "RARE" car.. they should LOOK at the DECK STAMP and docs if any were available ;) and/or hire an expert to examine the car.. who knows.. maybe somebody already did so.. it would be beyond poor judgement to do anything but say.. Pretty car to look at .. at this point. Things are not always as they appear.. I do not believe I see any language saying ORIGINAL L-78 Engine?? or Use of NOS parts, ..
later....and Yes, John.. can't dangle meat in front of a Dog and not expect him to at least Nibble ;)
DaleM Nov 1st, 08, 5:44 PM I do not believe I see any language saying ORIGINAL L-78 Engine?? Maybe not in our vernacular or our standards but, "Complete matching number drivetrain 396/375 horsepower..." would certainly lead anyone with $100K+ to spend to assume it is for a $30K-$50K premium.
Also, they quote 2100 L78s in 66. It is my understanding there were 3,099 chevelles with the L78.The ad copy mentions 3100 but also says Chevrolet released the L78 in the spring. I believe it was the fall/winter of 65 when it was reinstated. When Chevrolet began taking orders and making delivery might be a different story. ;)
66 L78 ragtop Nov 1st, 08, 6:50 PM I know this car fairly well. I researched this car with a serious intent to buy. I have a 2 page report that I compiled from my interviews with the last 5 previous owners including the guy that did the chassis restoration.
The guy that restored the chassis is very well respected in the Z16 circles. One of the previous owners is a member of this site...lets see if he chimes in. Needless to say, the more I learned about this car, the more I lost interest.
If you are serious about this car, drop me an e-mail and I'll tell you what I know.
skyman51 Nov 1st, 08, 7:18 PM Bring me a 67 SS L78 with paperwork and we'll talk.:D
