I built a 383 with a new GM small block and used Eagle H-beam rods. There was no need to do anything to the rods but I did have to spend some time clearancing the block. I really doubt you could get that much stroke in there without needing at least some grinding. My brother also built a 383 and he used stock rods. He had to grind both the rods and the block to get it to clear. Maybe someone else knows?
Good luck graemlins/thumbsup.gif

If you use the GM 383 block, crank and rods, no grinding required. Otherwise there's grinding. For instance http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/ChevyPartialEngineBlocksStandardDeckSmallBlockV8s/HT383_Partial_Engine_Block.html
