Soon enough i'll be hearing it make a RUMBLE, RUMBLE, RUMBLE
:D

the system from the headers back weighs 43lbs, the mid pipe section only weighed 15lbs.

Obviously not enough gear oil spilled on the floor!
Is this an X pipe setup?

When I saw the title of this thread,I thought of one of the Dave Chapelle's "Little John" skits and him saying "What?" :D

Brian,the exhaust looks great graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Looks real nice. I can tell you from experience that those turn downs will make the underside of the car filthy...outside too as you'll kick up some nasty dust balls driving through the pits/grass at some tracks.

How about some nice mandrel bent tail pipes?

Looks good.

The title reminded of an old thread on aluminum vs iron heads once found while searching.

i'm not real worried about dust, both Etown and atco have paved pit areas.
I like the look of the dumps.

thanks for the compliments, its an H-pipe set-up, and i'll take some photos of the H section. It was too dark under the car when i took the photos and they photos of the H didnt come out well.

Hey brian...are those new floor pans or did you buy a california car?

Yeah dumps rock. I have them on my Chevelle and I love them. Lots of rumble, less restrictive, and less weight. why not.

I myself am growing older (I'm 34) and I just can't stand loud cars anymore. I like having a more mellow sound, plus it's really neat to race and beat all out race cars with a full street exhaust equiped car. On the occasion I removed the tails, the sound reverberating under the car was annoying. I don't know how I stood listening to turn downs on the car the previous years.

But, like they say, to each his own...what one likes, another does not.

if you guys turn the turn downs to the point where they're slightly facing each other at an angle, you'll cancle out a lot of the sound.

thanks Craig, that means alot to me.

Nick,
this car has the original floor pans, and its been a jersey car its whole life. I'm the 3rd owner, then 1st and 2nd owners garage kept the car.

Todd,
I'll keep your suggestion in mind, but at 19 it probably wont bother me to make a little noise....i'm more concerned about my neighbors being bothers by the sound. But i think the big mufflers will keep things toned down.

Steve,
lol, one of the projects before i get moving is to change the pinion depth/backlash from where i had it.
send some pictures of the car.

Nice job Brian!!

Can't wait to see AND hear!!

Hey guys, whats the best way on a Chevelle to face the turndowns to keep the noise and dirt down?

My car will have 4" exhaust and with the coil overs and anti-roll bar I most likely won't have any room for tailpipes!!

What size are the pipes?

Thanks.

Motor Martyr
Jun 24th, 04, 5:34 PM
3" pipes, 3" H crossover.
the mufflers are 14" long BTW, they were a little tricky fitting under the car without hanging them down too much.

Well you got a CLEAN jersey car man. Do they salt at all up there??? Around here cars dont look like that unless they came from california or some other no snow state

thanks Nick,
the driver that owned the car before me was an older lady, and she drove the car on the weekends and nice days.
She bought it from one of her friends who also kept up on it.

it only had 66,000 miles on it when i bought it.

A better title for this post would've been:
"Can you hear me now"
like those phone comercials.

Nice Car. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Interesting. I bought my gold 1967 Camaro with 63,000 miles on it and I too am the third owner. Same deal, older lady hardly drove it. Still only has 65,000 miles on it now.
