I just acquired (long story) a 12 bolt Richmond 4.56 (9 tooth pinion, 41 tooth ring) gear set and need some help identifying whether it is for a 3 or 4 series carrier. I am planning on putting the set up for sale (i.e. ebay) since I don't need them but I want to make sure what the set is for. The pinion measured 1.625" on the bearing surface next to the teeth, outside diameter of the ring gear is 8 7/8", and the ring gear has 12 mounting bolt holes so I'm pretty sure it's a 12 bolt "c" clip passenger car gear set. The only numbers I have found on the set are on the ring gear. They are 8-0430-1 and E 5 8260. I assume these are part numbers for the ring gear, and not the gear set, since I can't find a richmond number to tie this to. Is there a measurement that I can take on the ring gear (i.e. mtg flange to top or bottom of teeth)? TIA Ted

r,
Call Richmond, they can tell you which gear set it is. I have done it several times and they are very helpful.

Thanks Bill for the advise. You know it's kinda like when your wife asks you to pull over and ask for directions. Actually I went onto the Richmond website and they had a cross reference page. I was able to put in the number from the ring gear and it came back with the part numbers for the set. Turns out to be a 12 bolt 4.56 for c clip passenger car with a 3 series carrier. This sure would have been easier than taking the measurements. graemlins/clonk.gif
