THANKS  ;)
LKN BCK Dec 21st, 03, 10:49 PM I used the Ravens that Midas sells. It don't sound like a grandpa's car no more!!!Might want to check them out...see if any body there has them installed on a vehicle that you can listen too..I don't think you will be disappointed. DANO
Roadknee Dec 21st, 03, 10:53 PM Try Summit's Turbo muffler @ around $14 each.
19Nova72 Dec 22nd, 03, 12:03 AM I like the Hooker Aero Chambers. You can see right through them so they flow good, they sound like flows without the distinctive "ting", and they will set off car alarms too! graemlins/hurray.gif
travis g Dec 22nd, 03, 12:08 AM I second the aerochambers. Awesome sounding muffler graemlins/thumbsup.gif
RacnJsn95 Dec 22nd, 03, 12:30 AM When I get around to doing my turbo stuff to one of my velle's I'm going to use these Dynomax Ultraflows (http://www.dynomax.com/ultrafloweld.stm)
Dynoed on the same car with no changes other than changing from Flowmasters to Ultra Flos it shows there was about a 25hp gain.
Dyno comparision Chart is at Turbomustangs.com in the knowledge base, towards the bottom there is an article on the switch.
They sell for about $60 each. I don't know about the sound though... Anyone ever hear a set of these?
RussD Dec 22nd, 03, 5:36 AM Jason,
Have those on my 5.0 mustang. I got tired of the 2 chamber flows and cut them off and put on the dynomax's. Mellower than the flows, so I can actually think, but still pretty loud. BTW- both systems are 2.5" headers, offroad H-pipe, mufflers, no tails. I give the ultraflows the graemlins/thumbsup.gif at least on my stang.
trimless Dec 22nd, 03, 8:21 AM I second the Summit Turbo Muffler. A $15 each it's hard to beat the price and the sound is sweet too, not too loud at idle but it sounds great when you get on it!
mc71454 Dec 22nd, 03, 8:59 AM I am on board with the Summit mufflers for price alone. I second the Dynomax Ultraflows. I have been using them for the last 3 years, love the sound.
Sorry but since I have never run my car without mufflers and a full exhaust, I can't speak for performance loss when compared to open headers or compare to Flowmasters.
The aerochambers also have a great sound.
Just stay away from glasspacks like the thrush or other flow through cheapies, they are very restrictive.
mr 4 speed Dec 22nd, 03, 9:21 AM Summit Turbos get my vote too...sounded great in conjuction with the Flowmaster 2.5" A body exhaust kit that comes w/o mufflers, and they sounded great on my 442 convertible-with the top up or down graemlins/thumbsup.gif
New68SS Dec 22nd, 03, 9:52 AM Another vote for the Summit Turbo’s. Got em on my ‘71 small block and love em.

Texas70 Dec 22nd, 03, 10:06 AM Summit turbos WIN !!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
64SS427 Dec 22nd, 03, 12:27 PM I put on the Dynomax Ultra flows with a 2.5 with crossover on my BB. It really sounds good without too much noise with hiway cruising. The Ultraflows are a straight thru pipe without any baffle restriction. I noticed an HP increase immediately in comparison to the old chambered mufflers. graemlins/beers.gif
1966_L78 Dec 22nd, 03, 1:51 PM Summit Turbos get my vote too...sounded great in conjuction with the Flowmaster 2.5" A body exhaust kit that comes w/o mufflers, and they sounded great on my 442 convertible-with the top up or down Another vote for Summit's mufflers...
I have the 2.5" Flowmaster system, and I was using Flowmaster (3-chamber I think), and after a few years, the drone got annoying, especially on low cruises... This was on a convertible though, so might have some effect...
I opted for the Summit's because of the price. I eventually want to redo the exhaust, but this is years down the road. So I had a shop cut off the Flows and install the Summits using the existing pipes... Seems to be a little quieter, but its still really loud (wife and neighbors say it sounds just as loud, and the neighbor knows "Flowmaster" sound).
I will gladly use these again for anything short of a killer full-on exhaust system...
$40 for 2 mufflers and shipping!!! Its agreat deal...
Robert G Dec 22nd, 03, 5:28 PM SUMMIT MUFFLERS IT IS!!!! tongue.gif  tongue.gif
CaptCrunch Dec 22nd, 03, 7:15 PM Most Summit products are usually a name brand product with the summit name on it... anyone have an idea of who makes them for summit? I am thinking maybe Walker... which walker=dynomax?
PETE466 Dec 23rd, 03, 11:01 AM Have anyone tried dynatech split-flow muff`s?look pretty decent,lol
cjlandry Dec 23rd, 03, 2:30 PM I also run the 2.5" Summit Turbos. Have had these on the car for about three years now, and they're still fine.
I get compliments on the sound everywhere I go.
Second_chance_SS Dec 23rd, 03, 3:11 PM Helpful topic. I will be looking at exhaust too. Hearing the Summit may be made by Walker is encouraging. The last set I did was on my 70 SS with LS5. I put a full set from headers back on with Walker Red Line Z mufflers. Anyone remember those?? Pretty mellow with normal driving, but when you stuck your foot in it, they really barked! I loved those mufflers. I had 2 1/8" primary tube headers with a 3 1/2" collector. 2 1/2" pipe all the way out the back. Ended with Chrome 3 1/2" baloney cut tips. All very new and high tech for 1976!!
has anyone used the Summit welded mufflers? are they just a flowmaster knock-off or something different? they are like $40 or $50 a piece i think. anyone here use Spin Tech mufflers? i heard a few sound clips on their website and they sound pretty mean. of course the cars that they were on had pretty healthy motors too.
19Nova72 Dec 23rd, 03, 11:35 PM I have never used the Summit welded muffs but I also thought they were prolly "Flows" without the name brand price ;)
jakeshoe Dec 24th, 03, 2:28 AM Here's my opinion for what it's worth,
I have the Summti $15 2.5" turbos on my '69. They are GREAT replacement muscle car muffler.
They seem to flow good, I personally like the sound better than anything else I've messed with (Dynomax Ultra-Flo's, Flow 40's and 50's, cheapie turbos, glasspacks, etc...).
The price is right.
I've also used their welded 3" muffler on my '87 S10 4x4 with a TBI 350. It was very mild sounding, I ran a 3" Catco hi-flo converter into the Summit muffler out ther back to appear stock. it was so mild at idle that it still sounded like the 2.8L V6.
But at throttle it wasn't loud but had a nice sound.
I think it was $40 then.
VERY happy with the quality and performance of the mufflers.
If I were buying again I would go with the welded type for reliability/longetevity. Very sturdy muffler.
It is NOT a Flow or even similar.
The Summit mufflers are a packed turbo design, I'd also guess a Walker or similar.
