I have a 69 chevelle 2900-3200 stall with a th400 and a 12bolt 3.73 in the rear. I currently have a boring 305. I would like to know what HP(400-500hp), Torque and cam should i use to really wake this car up.

Do i need to adjust valves? Can i use a mechanical fuel pump? Most importantly how much??

Yes thats a solid cam , so yes you need to adjust valves. I just threw that combination together, so you can change the cam specs if you like. Yes you can use a mechanical fuel pump too. The how much thing can be varied also. If you use forged components or cast crank or hypereutic pistons. Some company's sell short blocks then you add the cam & heads. GM sells a crate ZZ383 you can buy it as a long block or a short block. The price options are unlimited.

when you mean adjusting valves, you mean when you build the engine. You dont have to adjust the valves all the time?

On solid cams you need to adjust the valves periodically.

Ok seriously I made up a proven combination that made 525 hp. If adjusting valves isn't your thing, it will still make great hp with a Hydraulic cam. Comp Cams make their Extreme energy series cams a 284H would work as well.

hey that sounds like a great combo. That cam produces 525hp, how will that feel with a 3200 stall converter on the street?

I run almost exactly that combo (pro-topline 200cc iron heads, 10.3-1 compression, 294s comp cams solid, 300-36 holley intake, 750 card, etc etc), backed by a TH350 with a 3200-3400rpm ATI convertor and 3.73 gears. It will ignite the rear street tires at a 45mph roll, and puts a big ol' :D on my face every time I drive it.

What size radiator do you have in your car? I have a fairly new 3 core cooling my 305.
Do you have power brakes?

3 core new stock replacement radiator...cools it just fine even in the heat of summer. It also has a clutch fan and a shroud which helps a lot. I am also using a new stock replacement water pump.
I do have power brakes, and they work just fine. The cam has a nasty sounding idle at 900 rpms, but still pulls 11" idle vac with the valve lash on the loose side and 18* initial timing plus manifold vac advance on the distributor.

My 3 core radiator will hold up just fine for the 525hp stroker, nice! Your using a stock water pump, that keeps your motor cool? your power brakes work fine thats very good.

I think 525hp out of this combo is VERY optimistic ;) But in any case, it can get you in a whole lot of trouble in a very short amount of time :D
