I have a fairly new (400 miles or so)and stock 396 with the 390 oval port heads and i would like the run the lunati 402A2LUN cam. I do plan on buying the edelbrock rpm air gap intake along with a new 750+cfm carb. What would I need in order to run this cam. Also do i have to have new springs. Here are the specs of my springs that i have now.

Outer Diameter Top: 1.500
Inner Diameter Top: 1.086
Damper: YES
Seat Pressure @ Installed Height 90# @ 1.875
Open Pressure and Height 280# @ 1.300
Coil Bind: 1.130
Average Spring Rate 330 #/IN

Not Harold, but I think you may need to change springs. The recommended spring (73121) has 142# at 1.94" and 402# at 1.25". Your springs have substantially less pressure than this.

yeah - i agree with the new springs... unless you want valve float around mid 4000rpm! when i was running just my outer springs on a low lift cam (.53), it should have aorund 330lbs and it was floating at 5000 ish rpm!

thanks for the advise. I was planing on changing the springs out anyway, but was just checking first
