I've decided to step up to a solid roller cam for my BBC. Don't want a HR. Same money for less power.
The combo is:
2 blt studded w/ cast crank & stk rods SPS bolts
Mildly ported 781's with 2.19/1.88's
SRP's, 10.2-1 compression
need to buy RPM intake
950hp or a 850DP or maybe an 870vs for giggles
1 7/8 headers currently, may switch to 2" if needed.
3.04 1st gear w/ 3.07 gears and .76 6th

Weekend car, 99% street, need pwr brakes, 10-11" at idle should work. My last motor was a 12-1 288/288 110 lsa solid .575 lift. with an old Torker.
I like how the 288/296F10 cam runs/sounds in Thor70SS's car.

I'm looking at the UD 285/295R12. .630 lift Not sure if it will RPM too much for my bottom end.
I remember something about a boat motor test from Harold. So it's easy on parts.

Also like the 276/284R10 .660 lift. Not sure if it's big enough though. Might be a little hard on the lifters for a street car.

Or maybe the 287/295r12 .660 lift.
Which probably will have too much rpm.

What are the spring requirements for these cams also? I like the Isky Tool room line if I can find a soft enough spring in that line.

I like the Comp XR282R, but don't know if they did a better job on the profile than the XE line.

Any hints on the new Lunati XE stomper line Harold?

Scott,

You know, "Xtreme-Stomper" has such an exquisite sound to it........

For your combo, I'd use the 285/295R12, with rockers anywhere from 1.7(.630" lift) to 1.8(.667" lift), and put the cam in from 105° ATDC to 108° ATDC. It should have a minimum of 600 BHP at 6200, and pull pretty good from about 2800. Vacuum seems within the correct range. I have run this cam for years with 210 lbs on the seat at 1.900" and 525 lbs open at 1.300", with multiple-year spring and lifter life. The 290/300R went over 2000 miles in 24 hours at LeMans, early 1980s, no valve train failure, the 2 John Hagen Camaros..... The dynamics of the 285/295 are identical.

Hope this answers your questions, if not, ask away....

Yes it does, but of course it leads to more questions.
I know Chris_69_SS is interested in the 286/296 .680 lift cam from another post, and I was wondering about the 287/295 .660 cam too.

Since these two cams and the 285/295 are so close together in duration. Will they all have the power peak at about the same RPM? Assuming the same LSA and engine.
Do any of them prefer a tighter LSA. I'd like a 112 LSA to keep the Vac up.
Can you say approx. what the power difference would be?
How much more spring if any does each require?
Anything else I don't know enough to ask about?

Oh yeah, part #'s?
