I'm guessing Gary at GMPP would be at the top of the list. Though I've yet to see his times, I think he was supposed to compete in the "Cheap Street" class with a late model Camaro.

I haven't run my car at the strip, so I couldn't tell you what it runs.

I think Gary is running a set of ported fast burns - not exactly Vortecs.

I know a girl who ran a 383 with ported Vortecs in a 67 Camaro. She was running 11.7's with 11:1 compression, a healthy solid FT cam, and 3.73 gears. No exhaust, electric w/p, trailered car. Not sure if that is even close to the fastest one out there though . . .

The car now has a new motor and runs low 11's with a 406, Dart heads and solid roller cam.

Unported Vortec's. The car is 90 percent finished. I was installing gauges today.

The engine build was in Super Chevy about two months ago, don't remember the cover date. Title was Cheap Street something...But the good stuff isn't in the story...can't give it all away.

Brian Thomson (engine builder) was at the house a couple weeks ago checking out the car, his comments were "car looks great...I never thought the engine would make it off the dyno." Inspiring words from your engine builder, huh? In fairness to Brian, we pushed well beyond the limits of sanity on the head milling, that's what he was refering to.

We made 480HP w/o NOS and 650 w/ NOS, all with a .485 lift cam and flat top pistons.

The car will make its first passes in April, looks good on paper, can't wait to see it in action.

Merry Christmas.
Gary

There are the two brothers I've seen post here (one is named Tom, I believe) with the '67 sedan in the mid 12's.

My ported iron Vortec 355 runs 10.70's at 3080 lbs. It is a 1988 Monte Carlo in no E. I originally ran this car as an IHRA Crate Motor stocker but have converted it to a bracket racer. In my opinion, the Vortec heads are a strong runner, broad power range, excellent throttle response for a foot brake racer. The heads are angle milled to 58cc. Using a Manley light weight flat top, .016 FelPro gasket and close deck clearance, gives about 10.7 compression ratio. a mild Bullet Flat tappet cam compliments the combo. The other specs are, powerglide w/1.96 low & w/PTC 5700 converter, 4.88 gear, ladder bar, 29.5 x 9 M/T tire. Shifted at about 7300 and runs about that at the finish line. Best performance so far at about 1000 adjusted air, 1.45 60ft, 6.73 1/8, 10.71 @ 124 MPH
