Hey Everyone, I was going to put a torque stap on my 69SS this weekend but was wonder if it mattered on which side of the engine it was mounted to. I seem to recall somewhere that it should be mounted to the drivers side but after looking at my engine compartment it would actually be easier to mount on the pass. side. would this be ok? Thanks everyone and have a great 4th of July.

i don't think it would help if it were on the passenger side....when you rev the engine torques toward the passenger side and thats what your trying to stop...if you mount it to the drivers side then it won't twist as far......somebody correct me if im wrong!

You only need one if you still have the older, non-lock together rubber engine mounts..

My car had them when new and I got the recall notice but never had them replaced. They both broke and I just drilled a hole through each one and bolted them back together.

AND then made my own, homemade torque strap out of a short piece of chain, a hook and a good strong turnbuckle!!

BTW, and yes, drivers side front corner of the motor down...

The USS69BelAir had one on the driver's side - went from the UCA shaft to the exhaust manifold I believe.

turnbuckle and chain works good. i kept breaking the rubber type motor mounts on my '70 c-10 pickup and that solved it. i have solid mounts on the '65 bu with the same engine and so far no problems. no strap required with the solid mounts.

I had a chasis shop make me one of of tubing and spherical rod ends.I drilled a hole in the front of the frame and bolted 1 end there and bolted the other end to an accesory hole in the head on my prostreet nova.Look for the engine pics of the nova in my sig, there are some there, and I think it looked a lot cooler than any chain or strap. It's the SBC labeled 408 engine.

Put a solid motor mount on the drivers side. I didn't notice any appreciable increase in vibration, etc... Then again my engine is well balanced, too smile.gif

Another way to get around the rubber motor mounts breaking is to drill thru the mount with about a 1/4" drill......then countersink the frame side for a flat head allen screw.......assemble and tighten the screw with a thin jam nut......don't tighten so as to compress the mount......take a center punch and stake the threads at the screw diameter and "Forget about it"
