That's kick@$$
PRO 48 Fleetline Oct 24th, 08, 7:48 PM LOL Amazing how the simpliest things in life work the best sometime lol, this car has 3 1/2 "s of ground clearance and ran across Detroit Speeds site and they use a ton of these Hand made stands when working on low cars they are the bomb i can crawl under it and with a back that dosent always feel the best it brings the car right to me height wise!

Chicken Coupe Oct 25th, 08, 12:44 AM Thanks for the update. Tons of creative stuff, lots of details, and a common theme "V" (for Very cool). Absolutely love the way you're taking your time, planning things out and designing components that flow together and look like they were supposed to be there from day one.
Keep up the great work! Keep us updated!
PRO 48 Fleetline Oct 25th, 08, 1:18 AM Thanks just like you were reading my mind lol
It drives me crazy to see people throw alot of money at a car and it look like a rolling summit catelog! I really like the Custom aspect to a car by making and designing alot of like you said subtle details that would normally be overlooked by others.
Heres a list of just a few mods done to the car:
Fenders welded to the car
Most all the trim removed car except window trim and handles
trying to keep an older feel to the car still orginal tailights with a frenched antenna, removed the center bar from windsheild removed wing vents
complete custom front end all metal still lightened up opend hood at body line, custom built inner fender braces
fabbed new hood bracing and smooth under side of hood
also custom built belly pan,
Flipped the Bumpers tapered the corners moved them closer to the body
new smooth valance panels and bumper brackets, smoothe bumper bolts
also smoothed up innner door jams and firewall master cylinder on the frame all wires will be hidden and the frame will be body color.
and i havent gotten to the interior yet lol
All this metal mock up is so time comsuming but i dont want to be at a show sitting back going damn i wish i would of done that or done this. so wanna make it to the level i like.
Chicken Coupe Oct 25th, 08, 1:57 AM It drives me crazy to see people throw alot of money at a car and it look like a rolling summit catelog!
Yup. See it all the time. Actually love it when my teenage son looks over a car like that and quietly says something like, "Dad, what was this guy thinking...nothing goes together!" He get's it.
Full resto, mild resto, pro tour, etc, there's no prize for finishing first, only for finishing best.
Take your time, stick to your budget, and have a nicer finished project because you planned it out.
davis95 Oct 25th, 08, 2:33 AM Totally cool! You can't beat custom stuff.
PRO 48 Fleetline Oct 28th, 08, 1:28 AM Finished tacking in my hood bracing welded some round bar on the edging of my front end where as it use to be my hood " I cut it open at the body line and the rest is welded to the fenders so basically opened the top of the hood up!. AKA open up a whole new long ass bag of work of worms lol. But haven't seen a 46-48 done like this probably for good reason! but never cared for the full openess of the big hood and this gives an early model mercury style pan cake look to it. with that said where i cut it had to have a lip there instead of just cut metal so with carrying the theme of no visible bolt holes under the hood here i am.
Im working on my inner fender wells now they will be tacked to the round bar and the custom inner bracing from behind and when complete will all flip forward with the front clip. Yep alot of work but i keep imagining what it will be like finished nothing better then someone next to you in a same style of car and they are taken back, when they thought they saw everything done too these cars, takes crazy people like me to keep them on there toes.
The car has alot of custom work but it a subtle smooth sorta way. And still feels 40's like.

PRO 48 Fleetline Oct 30th, 08, 1:36 AM Well guys good news decided on a color FINALLY...!
Heres a color similiar its off a Lexus green sage pearl!
Wanted a color with an older feel to it and something really clean and you will not see alot of. Also finally decided on the wheels thanks to Centerline they made my decision easy being i wanted a salt flat wheel but didnt want the amercian racing street wheel Quailty and weight. Instead here comes the new line of race wheels in yep the exact look i wanted lol crazy because theres always so many and tempting wheel sout there. heres a few photos.

Chicken Coupe Oct 30th, 08, 6:20 AM While greens are not my "thing", the tone of the colors shown do seem to be "period" appropriate to the shape and age of the car.
For what it's worth, I remember a couple of colors similar to the darker green. Back in the late 70's called Granite Green. I think it was a Camaro color, but not sure. Porsche also had a similar green in the mid eighties. Greens from about 1963-1967 were also grey-greens, Olds, Caddy, and Buick colors.
chevelless502 Nov 1st, 08, 10:30 AM The car looks great so far, cant wait to see it as a finished project. It kinda hits close to home cause i have a 51 fleetline my grandfather gave me thats got 26,000 actual miles on it.
Good luck with the ride,
Andy

Yep Detroit speed using them for all there builds! and they came in so handy for this build aswell ecs. being the car only has 3 1/2" of ground clerance.
made them for $25.00 I built mine a little wider for my wider rear wheels and to make them a little more stable!

Kim57 Jan 18th, 09, 3:34 PM Wow! The engine looks really nice.
What did you use to smooth it?
Kim
PRO 48 Fleetline Jan 20th, 09, 10:40 PM Thanks smoothed it with grinding block on my side angle grinder and then step it with sanding pads, then used some good etching primer then shot it with base clear!
sg5492 Jan 20th, 09, 10:46 PM That looks great, how long did it take to smooth it ?
Now that's a nice hot rod! I have always loved the old Fleetline torpedobacks (a basic sedan delivery is also good in my books). Thanks for posting the progress.
6SuperSport7 Jan 21st, 09, 3:49 AM Looking Great!
PRO 48 Fleetline Jan 25th, 09, 9:07 PM Thanks took almost 3 full evenings of grinding and smoothing probably seems silly to most but the rest of the car will have the same feel and theme to it lol frame etc so thought it was worth the effort!

I got my motor back in the car for final mock up, and built a custom low mount alternator becket for the passenger side of the car witch no one makes! I really wanted to keep the accessories low in the engine compartment and im running a power steering pump on the driver side.
Heres a few shots with an old alt in fo rmock up! hopefully ordering my heads soon! aswell.
Also running solid motor mounts so i was able to mount the alt. to the frame!

PRO 48 Fleetline Apr 19th, 09, 3:20 PM Well I went ahead and took the car off the blocks been awhile since its been at ground level forgot just how low this thing rally sits and the car is still fun a as a project and i havent gotten bored with it, Id love to be able to go faster at it but building it all myself is taking a little why'll!
The new rockers at roughed in and they wrap under the car about 6"s to the body lip have the one inner wheel well mocked in and seems to clear headers real nice! Door jambs are all smoothed and just really need to close up my lock holes on the doors and get the door gaps right then adjust front clip and like to get hood mounted. So lil more to tend to but still looking to have the body off the frame by middle of summer so i can start smooting the frame!

LOL I know i mentioned that before to a few friends but they needed cleaned up before being panted anyway,
These plates are all Aluminum imagine that for 1948 they made them in aluminum half of 47 and all of 48 nice because they are soooo light and will never rust.
I have my painter comming in a few weeks to help line up my front clip and hood so i can finish the mock up and get the car off the frame like to be smoothing it this summer and have it ready for a final fit by winter or first of the year may take awhile to smooth the whole frame and paint it!

Big step finally started on the body work just a lil bit of final sheet metal fab left and i'll start blocking the car.
I smoothed up the door locks tonight and welded up my front area above the rad. in the pic above, all turned out nicely getting closer cant wait! to get this car all in primer and then i can break it apart and start finallyyyyyyy smoothing the frame,
I think i decided on my wheels aswell realy loving the new Billet Specialties Street Lites,
I'll get you up some updated photos soon Later George
