Hey Mike,
Do you have any flow info on SBC Canfield heads and what are your opinion about them? How do they compare to AFRs? Thanks
Paul

Sorry Paul, I don't have any numbers on the Canfields on my bench & unless the numbers come off the same bench or one I know agrees with mine the flow numbers are like dyno numbers,,, just numbers ;)
You might check the CHP website as they did a very comprehensive head test series a few years ago supposedly under the same conditions on the same bench so the numbers should be very comparable to each other.

I know for a fact that the AFR numbers & Brodix numbers are very close to as advertised on my bench as I have had heads that were actually flowed on these benches on mine.
Can't really say the same for some others regarding "advertised numbers" :D

I feel the AFR is arguably one of the best out of the box heads you can buy. Outstanding quality & workmanship.

The only two heads I will buy as complete assemblies are AFR & Brodix,, both quality companies with excellent products.

I don't use Canfield heads so I can't really comment on them as to quality but have not heard anyone who was unhappy with them.

Mike
Would you suggest I purchase AFR heads directly from them or from an unknown source that sells their heads for about $250 cheaper? Will I get the same performance out of the cheap ones? Should I even take the chance of recieving heads with questionable work? Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it.

By the way, those wolves are sweet! You should use them as watch dogs at the shop. I'm sure you would never have to worry about theives! :D

A cheaper source may be filling the heads with components that, while probably good, may not be of the quality that comes out of AFR or Brodix directly. Either of these companies could tell you if they are shipping to jobbers bare, in which case you have probably got your answer.

I bought my AFR heads from JDS Performance (http://www.jdsperformance.com/index.asp?initemuid=318&fcmd=item&inmake=all) and they were cheaper than buying straight from AFR. The heads was shipped to me complete w/upgrades straight from AFR. My packing slip and UPS tracking information showed that my heads cam from AFR in California and said ship to: Deeboo, Bill to: JSDPerformance. The price is real good from these guys. Ask for Dave....I paid $1425 shipping included with the upgrade springs and drilled steam holes for SBC400.
AFR 195 parts#1036 w/ heat riser $1250.00
AFR Part#8016 upgrade springs w/.100L valves: $125.00
Size:
1.550 OD
.750 ID
Pressure:
140@1.930 seat
365@1.380 open
Coil Bind:
1.140
Rate:
410
Lift:
600
Drilled steam holes SBC400 $50.00
Shipping: Free
that price was hard to beat by others....

Thanks Tovar, thems are babies ;)

I am a WD for AFR & can give you a pretty good price.
BTW, we do not buy them bare I stick junk in them.
There are only two places I will buy complete heads from. One is AFR & the other is Brodix.
Great products & excellent attention to detail.

email me if I can help ;)
