Bill Pritchard Oct 19th, 08, 10:20 PM how many monaco orange ls6 chevelles are known to exist and that are documented?
Doubtful that anyone knows the real answer to that question :noway: One thing for sure, it's not too many...
Yours looks pretty nice
Dave Birdwell Oct 19th, 08, 11:03 PM Someone said 4, but if that is the case, I've seen them all.
Didn't Nick Lewis have a '70 LS-6 in Monaco Orange with Cowl Induction and stripe delete? Nick Lewis, who I haven't seen around here in some time, formerly went by the handle "L89sedan" until he sold his Lemans Blue L89 300 Deluxe SS396 to Don Lightfoot some years ago.
Where's Nick these days?
SSuper Dave Oct 20th, 08, 7:43 AM Nick is still here as ACES70, and the orange car of his that you are thinking of was an L-78.
I remember him having a black on black LS-6 a few yearsd ago with a CE engine in it, but no orange one.
drdave69 Oct 20th, 08, 4:50 PM There is one Orange LS6 in my town. Not sure if it is one of the 4.
704EVER Oct 20th, 08, 4:57 PM I saw one Hugger/Monaco Orange LS 6 run through one of the auctions down here, I believe last Feb. in Ft. Lauderdale. I can't remember which auction had it, but it sold that day. It was Orange, white stipes and a black interior 4 speed.
Just double checked, RM had it, Feb. 08 Ft.Lauderdale auction, lot SP 36 sold 184,250. Canadian paperwork with it. Nice car!!
mr 4 speed Oct 20th, 08, 5:36 PM the Monaco orange 70 L78 that Nick owned was also featured in HMM or Muscle Car Review after he sold it if I remember correctly.
Dave Birdwell Oct 20th, 08, 7:15 PM Usually, the Hugger Orange cars had a special paint code instead of the - - . Made them easier to identify, and a real car will have the WA number on the build sheet, if there is a real one.
slim Oct 20th, 08, 7:38 PM my car has the dashes (- -) where the paint code should be. what and where would the WA be on the build sheet
slim Oct 20th, 08, 8:14 PM there is no paint code on the build sheet either, it does have 1001PA, car was also stripe delete per F&SO.
DaleM Oct 20th, 08, 9:41 PM Different plants had different methods of indicating special paint on the trim tag. One TC'er sent me a photo of an Arlington tag that is blank in the paint code area (car was ordered with Camaro Gold #53), Van Nuys tags tend to have the DuPont mixing formula (926-99616 for the orange), Atlanta used the - - (dash characters). Other plants in 1970 surely used one of these methods as well.
I've seen build sheets from different plants with different methods of indicating special paint colors as well.
* A Baltimore sheet has printed F&SO code followed by 4001PC followed by PAINT PARA 19 WA 848 BLACK and even that is circled with hand-written 'Special Paint' noted. Block 79 has handwritten 'SPEC' spanning the LW UP areas.
* A Van Nuys sheet has all hand-written instructions in block 107, 'Solid Color - use 926-99616 - Orange * Stripes to be deleted (it's ZL2 optioned as well) and block 79 has SPECIAL handwritten across the entire block.
* An Atlanta sheet has nicely typed block describing the DuPont code 927-98457 GOLD METALLIC ACRYLIC ENAMEL and instructions to do the wheels in a special color, 767-98457 GOLD METALLIC BAKING ENAMEL. Paint color block 79 has - W - - in factory type, i.e., not handwritten.
Each plant had there standard operating procedures in handling special paint - and may even have change policy during the model year. It would not suprise me in the least. :)
Dave Birdwell Oct 20th, 08, 9:45 PM As I told Jim, I have a 70 Elky sheet with special paint, for the city of Goshen IN. PD. All it stated is "paint per F&SO City of Goshen PD"
slim Oct 20th, 08, 10:22 PM the special paint cars are very interesting to say the least, my dad and I bought this car back in 87, we are the second owners. first owner since got killed. trying to find out info. after all this time. thanx for any help or information. Jim

1969 El Camino Dan Oct 20th, 08, 11:52 PM As I told Jim, I have a 70 Elky sheet with special paint, for the city of Goshen IN. PD. All it stated is "paint per F&SO City of Goshen PD"

Wheelhop Oct 21st, 08, 7:47 PM Wasn't there an original unrestored 70 LS6 Monaco orange car at Chevellabration 2 years ago? Was that yours Slim Jim? I know it was driven there from not too far away.
Dave Birdwell Oct 21st, 08, 8:04 PM Can you share a good photo with us??

Thanks! That's Cool
I went to http://members.shaw.ca/hmshannon/index.htm and found Calgary GM Muscle, even looked at the great pics of Franks "pumpkin" Chariot LS6 but found no further mystery photos of weird build sheets.
Pheadrus Oct 21st, 08, 11:53 PM Hi guys
I have info on a 71 or 72 hugger/Monaco orange Chevelle. I believe the car was a "Heavy Chevy" with a 454/4spd. But I haven't seen the car in about 10 years so I'm not sure. If it is rare and you guys want the info on the car I can talk with the owner to get numbers and pics. He's a friend of a buddy so I can call him. The sad part is that he sold the original motor and is putting a V10 from a Dodge truck in it! And no I'm not kidding. From what I remember the lower body was really rough. Let me know if you guys want the info. Also, Slim if you don't mind e-mailing me, I'd like to find out if your car was sold new in Canada. I have a LS6 sold new in Ontario and am trying to find out how many export cars were built and still existed.
Thanks, Steve.
slim Oct 22nd, 08, 7:38 PM come on peoples, i know i am not the only one with a orange ls6, i heard that there were a few guys here with them. thank you Jim

DaleM Oct 25th, 08, 6:34 PM Absolutely gorgeous.
Any thoughts about the LS6 Registry (http://ls6registry.com)? Another way to bring LS6 cars and owners to light.
slim Oct 25th, 08, 7:17 PM hello Dale, I have been thinking about the LS6 registry, I need to get some pics of the cowl tag and off the front pad. just alittle leary about giving out VIN numbers. Jim
Dave Birdwell Oct 25th, 08, 8:02 PM If it makes you feel any better, Dale is one of the few people I would really trust with my VIN.

DaleM Oct 25th, 08, 9:51 PM hello Dale, I have been thinking about the LS6 registry, I need to get some pics of the cowl tag and off the front pad. just alittle leary about giving out VIN numbers. JimComplete VINs are never published and owner's information is kept confidential as well. Check out the site and see just how data are presented and http://ls6registry.com/contact/form_lead.htm to see details of privacy.
slim Oct 25th, 08, 9:53 PM hey lemonice, nice car, love those 69's, thank for the pics
Xplantdad Oct 26th, 08, 12:13 AM i dont know how you did that? but thanks.
It's easy...;) You've already done the hard part by loading it up to photobucket
if you want to do it manually then type
and then copy and paste the location of your picture in between the two image codes above...so it looks like this
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o125/lemonice_2007/chevellepictures003.jpg[/img
(by the way...I left the last bracket off...so you can see how it should look)
if you add the last bracket back on...your pic shows up like this:
[IMG]http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o125/lemonice_2007/chevellepictures003.jpg
Or....when you are in photobucket....just copy the IMG file and paste it in the post! See the pic below!

There you have it!
Bruce
