: 7" vacuum at idle (1000-1200rpm?)

I love my brakes-- when driving. Baer track system with rear discs. I could put a new corvette in my trunk if I wanted to...
But when pulling in and out of my garage, the angle is terrible and I have to do like a 6 point turn. Aside from the stock converter trying to kill the engine, so I have to 2-foot the gas and brake, the brakes cannot stop the car whatsover.. it just glides.. I really gotta push. One day I am gonna smack the garage or another car in the the driveway (I'd love to smack my dads car while its just sitting there.. riiight).
So: Option 1) new master cylinder and manual brakes. and 2) stage-whatever hydroboost.
Money aside, (I am switching jobs July 1st and looking at some decent cash!) what is my best bet here?

You can use a vacuum pump from a diesel pickup Chevy or F*rd.

Matt I had the same problem then went to a vacuum pump by master power brakes and it cured all ails now my power discs work like they should

DO you have a vacuum canister? That would be the cheapest way to have a couple of reserve stabs of the brakes.

Switching to manual brakes would probably not make you happy long term so a Hydroboost or vacuumn pump are really the best options.

Matt .... IMHO canister will do nothing with your idle vacuum Electric vacuum pump is way to go if you have power brake booster....check out this thread and see cheaper alternative to Master Brakes electric vacuum pump .....last post page 4

Note part # VP 103 may be discontinued VP 104 still available it should work too ... can't remember which pn I ended up with, not in garage right now Bill

Thanks guys.

I'll look into the elec vacuum pump-- I don't think the canister could pull it off, plus they are ugly as sin.
I'll also look at the hydroboost.
I have a long list of minor tweaks to get this thing running the way I want it to, but it feels like a strong performer. Not 500rwhp like I was told it could be, but pretty stout.
We will see tomorrow-- dyno at noon.
I am going to do one run from off-idle to floor like I would at the dragstrip to test my governor RPMs, then we will do 2 runs for power.

Thats what I hope anyway.

happy easter everyone.

if you put a looser convertor in, that would help also. probably make a heckuva difference in it's performance too. ;)

m71-- I didn't think of that. My "fixed" converter is on its way back this week.
I'll recheck my power brakes when it gets in.

Its brutal to drive this thing with the loaner converter I have..
