: 388 short block top end
hollingshedlr Oct 17th, 08, 10:48 AM I have a 388 short block out of a 80-85 truck and I am looking for a good top end combination. I have a set of dart s/s head, but I am pretty sure that they are almost stock. They came off a gen one Jasper Crate 350 for a 82 caprice. I was thinking of getting them ported and polished, but I dont know if it is worth it. What would be the best angle to go at this.
Jason Snyder Oct 17th, 08, 12:51 PM what are your rpm expectations ? what cam are you using ? what intake?
ewscott Oct 17th, 08, 1:19 PM I have a set of 200cc Iron Eagles that look stock till you look at the head thickness. They are about 1/2" taller than stock heads. The bend in the heads to the ports is a lot less, thus, I guess increasing flow. There is no comparsion to the stock heads in performance..

Brodix -8 sbc aluminum heads. 68cc chambers, 2.08/1.60 valves - $800
hollingshedlr Oct 17th, 08, 7:48 PM I am think of going with a 510 to a 525 lift cam. A victor jr dual plane high rise intake and about a 6500 to a 7500 rpm range.

a set of dart iron eagles, rhs, topline,in the 200cc would be good . BUT if you want a dual plane intake its not a victor jr ! its an rpm airgap . with a set of 200cc heads a basic 292 cam and a rpm manifold you should see right at 6500 rpm .and make 440hp with 10.5 compression .

You my want to do a search on the Patriot heads before you jump on them
hollingshedlr Oct 19th, 08, 7:56 AM I was looking on the Patriot Performance website and I was that they had a set of vortec heads for $695. They were 64cc with 185cc runners. They were also cast iron.

I'm not going to bad mouth them.... but just do your research first... there have been issues... be sure the seller is reputable and he'll stand behind his work
