My friend, opposite of most that have asked here, wants to get an exhaust system LOUDER than what he currently has.

He has a 355 with a mild cam breathing through stock 2.5in outlet manifolds, true dual 2.5 pipe running back to 40 series 2.5in Flowmaster and dumps/turn downs.

He wants a cop-calling type exhuast. Preferably cheap, that does not sacrifice HP.

We know we could slap glasspacks (that's for you Pdq67, lol, I know you're very fond of a good ol' glasspack equipped system), but he doesn't want to hurt his performance.

He also doesn't want to run headers since he has the front end dropped down low.

So . . . what muffler choice does he have that is LOUDER than 40s but that flow equal or better?

Yeah, remove the muffler and run straight pipes. That will get some cop attention in a hurry!

Why not use shorty headers with the lowered car?

Not much louder than Flows except race mufflers or straight pipes. How about a set of sidepipes like you used to see on the old Vettes.

Just get some shorter headers. Try 3 inch exhaust pipe...

Anything louder is prolly gonna sound terrible too.

They're about $30.00 a piece.
I run them on my Nova, and I really like them.
They're pretty darn loud, but if you run tail pipes, and get them out from under the car, it's not too bad inside.

I say go Bullets too. I wouldnt bother going more than 2.5" though.

Now this is just my personal opinion, but I think a car should be as loud as it is fast (if that makes sense). I think there is nothing worse than a car/truck thats obnoxiously loud and terribly slow. You have to hear the guy at full throttle for 40 seconds down the road because the cars not fast enough to get out of there in a hurry. But like i said, thats just my opinion.

There is a company that makes old school chambered mufflers- Summit sells them under their brand. Basically similar to a glass pack- but no fiberglass.

They sound wicked... although not sure how they would sound without headers. I'll second the Shorty Header vote.

Rice pipes are the most annoying thing on the planet. It's to where now EVERY foreign car I see has them, even if they're done nothing else to the car. Even the sorority girls in Civics and crap have them...must have idiot boyfriends who do it for them...

Redecks in trucks with straight pipes or busted glasspacks are no better. Can I again say how much I HATE echo tips.
