Hi, i have stock profile valve covers and i am using a set of Felpros Blue valve cover gaskets that are rubber with a steel insert, i need some extra clearance for the polylocks on my BB i am wondering if anyone has tried stacking these gaskets, they are molded rubber and i am not sure if they will seal against each other?

I wouldn't do that. Instead, use RTV silicone to glue a good quality cork gasket to the V/C and run the rubber one between that and the head. you can get real thick cork gaskets at hot rod shops.
I don't believe two of the rubber ones with the steel inserts would seal reliably. They actually seal on the thin ridges, if there were two the ridges would be criss-crossing and stuff.

I doubled up the FelPro layered cork gaskets. Works real well. I sprayed the matching surfaces of the gaskets as I would install them with HiTack spray, then installed them on the motor while the adhesive set. I have had these on/off a half dozen times without any leaks. Make sure to use the large spreaders under the bolts, I think mine were Moroso.

well these are the expensive blue rubber gaskets with the steel inserts so cork/cheap rubber experiences don't really apply, thanks anyway. graemlins/beers.gif

The expensive blue rubber gaskets with the steel inserts work well if you install those on the head, and install the thick cork gaskets on the valve cover. The 2 steel gaskets won't work too well together..saw this tried on a small block..it would get an oily film between the two.

You CANNOT double up the rubber gaskets with the steel inserts. They CANNOT seat properly because they rely on being squeezed between the total surface area of the head and valve cover. The ridges on another rubber gasket w/ steel inserts is not a flat surface area and therefore will most likely leak. The cork works because it doesn't have ridges of any kind. Hope this clears things up. graemlins/beers.gif

You could always have some custom valve covers made so you can use just one rubber gasket. That wouldn't be cheap.... ;)

well i wasn't saying that i wanted to spend a lot of money, i was trying to differ between the "cheap rubber gaskets" and these gaskets. I called felpro and they said the same thing, maybe i will just grind the underside of the valve cover a little where the polylocks hit. thansk

The cork gaskets work well, i've tried the fel-pro rubber type gaskets (more expensive then the cork), and the Cork gaskets worked much better.

Under hard acceleration with the rubber type i would get and oil leak out of the back of the valve cover, even with the raised valve cover rail of the Sportsman II heads.

You will find that Crower offers "short" Poly locks, that are advertised as for use with stock valve covers, i called and found they are 3/4" long (if i am not mistaken), and i looked up the price $33.10
might be a better option.

Fel-Pro and Mr. Gasket also make 5/16" thick gaskets (about the same as doubling up a regular gasket). That's what I'm using on my BBC with Pro-Magnum rollers and stock valve covers - work well so far, only 500 miles on them at this point.
