Harold, I read the earlier post where you recommended the 301B3LUN and I'm wondering if it's the same one you'd pick for my combo. My combo is a 79' El Camino. 355 with 4 eyebrow hypereutectic flattops, cast crank, & resized stock rods with ARP bolts. I have coated the tops of the pistons. New vortec heads with a .015" head gasket should put the quench at .040"-.041". Planning on running the new Comp Cams beehive springs with titanium retainers. Except for springs/retainers and screw-in studs for self-aligning rocker arms, the heads will be stock. I have a Performer RPM (vortec version) that I plan to cut the center divider down 1/2" across the length of the divider. Headers are 1 1/2"-1 5/8" stepped (long tube) with a 2 1/2" exhaust system with H-pipe. I also have a set of plain 1 5/8" long tube to use if they would work better. Weight is at 3750# with me and I have 120 lbs of lead available to hide in the tailgate if I need it to get this thing to hook. Trans is a T-350 with a 10" 3000 rpm converter. Gearing is 3.90. Aside from the large amount of weight, I want to keep the power brakes but will use a cannister/vacuum pump if that's what it takes to do so. smile.gif I have a brand new (never opened) CC XE-268 cam I Was planning to use with (brand new as well) Scorpion 1.6 self-aligning rockers. The XE-268 specs are 224*/230* @ .050 & a 110* lobe sep angle. Lift with 1.6 rockers will be .509/.512. I don't want to leave anything on the table with this combo. :D The block/rotating assy is still at the machine shop so I am able to change cam at this time even though I have XE-268 cam & 1.6 rockers (both new) at home. Any thoughts/ideas/comments would be welcomed & appreciated. Thanks. Dave H

Dave H,
With your 3000 SS converter and 3.90:1 rear gear, you could handle the 301B3LUN. It is a bigger cam than the CC XE268, with the 301B3 having 288/296 duration at .0045", about 282/290 at .006", 231/239 at .050, .517"/.541" valve lift with your 1.6s, and 108 LSA. It will need a vacuum pump and/or cannister, and a good mech fuel pump. If you are running it, and it is lazy in high gear, the carb float bowls are running out of gas.
This cam has been the most popular hydraulic that I have ever made for myself.

Hi Harold. Thanks for the reply. graemlins/waving.gif I'll plan on using the 301B3LUN with the 1.6 rockers I already have. Do I contact Lunati about purchasing this cam direct ? I have an Edlebrock fuel pump now on the 305. I'm considering the Carter 172 gph(?) manual fuel pump that doesn't require a regulator. I need to replace the fuel tank and now would be a good time to install a sump in the new one. This pump I'm considering would allow me to go ahead & plumb the fuel system for 1/2" line. I would think at 3800 lbs+, it's going to want fuel to move that pig ! Right now the el camino has the stock 3/8" fuel line. 1/2" seems like overkill for this small motor combo, but that was your recommendation for the other combination that you suggested the 301B3LUN for. If that's what you recommend, then that's what It'll get. I appreciate the help/feedback very much. I'm pumped about this motor getting so close to finally going together after several years of false starts. :D Thanks again. Dave H

Put in the 1/2" line and the Carter 172-gph pump---The cam loves them. When have seen noticeable gains in the 1/4 mile with the Carter and 1/2" line.
I'd put the cam in about 102 ATDC ICL, Lunati grinds them 4° advanced, to about 104. It always runs the best about 6 ahead. It will also love the 1.6s.
