I'd like to start stripping some dead weight off the chevelle. Where should I start, What could I take off? The car is street/strip. What does the car weigh stock w/big block? How much could fiberglass body panels take off?

I would skip the fiberglass ... I think that's just more magazine talk than anything. Good street fiberglass isn't much lighter ... Racing stuff is different, but pretty flimsy for a street car.

Now that I say that fiberglass bumper are one that I have been considering with the release of these new "chrome" paints ... other than that I always thought the old S/S aluminum bumpers were a pretty cool idea.

Wheels will help about as much as anything.

Neal, As Harold said, I'd start with wheels. I just did a Wilwood front dics conversion and took off 23 lbs. total from my drum setup. The sound deadoning weighs a ton. I just did a dash R/R and the Malibu emblem above the glove box must have weighed 2 lbs. I have fibreglass bumpers and the stock ones really aren't that heavy, the brackets are though. You can cut the underside of the hood and trunk away, pin everything to get rid of latches. I picked up 2 tenth's by getting alum. pulleys and brackets, underdriven, and an electric fan. Just start taking stuff off.

my 69 has a big block with iron heads and t-400. body is all stock except for fibreglass hood. also all the heating and cooling has been removed. car still has full interior though with stock buckets. car weighed in at 3795#'s with my 250 # body in it and 1/2 tank of gas. mike
