How many people are Successfully using a stock GM starter on a motor with rougly 9.5 - 10:1 compression.
How long have you been using the starter?
How often do you drive your car?

I'm not talking about a replacement starter, but a rebuilt GM starter.

Big ugly bulky stock starter in mine and the motor has 235 psi cranking compression. It's been in there for 18 years. I have a Declo 78DT battery turning it also. That battery will crank any motor.

Brian; G.M. ran them on all their 10+:1 engines for a long time so they can't be all bad. When are you doing the transplant on your Camaro?

Hey brian, i have 11.1:1 compression {according to pat kelley's compression calculator} in my 350. I use an old boneyard starter that i have to believe is an old GM unit. It came with the motor that was in the car when i bought it and works fine, but again i use a rather large cam so that may make a difference. I take it your getting close to firing that new motor of yours???
