All,
I am looking for some help with my steering column. I have a 1967 chevelle malibu that was converted into a SS with a floor shifter. I purchased a 3 spoke SS steering wheel and when I removed the aftermarket steering wheel, there is not enough left on the innner steering column to put the nut on. I am not sure what is different here. I have looked in my service manuals and no luck really showing how it should be. Any thoughts??
I appreciate your time and help.

Kevan, see if there is a spacer of some kind left on the column from the other steering wheel.Sometimes there is a chrome or black spacer like you see with aftermarket Grant steering wheels. If there is not one then, check to see if the colar on the outside of the column has slipped. It is spring loaded from what I can tell and does sometimes move. With the column in the car, you can try to push against it and see if it moves.
On another note, make sure the steering wheel itself is seated against the bottom of the shaft. I have seen them be very tight but not seated, properly.

I have removed the aftermarket color, and there still is not enough room. with the colar all the way down, there still is not enough room.. I am not even sure if this is the right steering colum for the year and model of car. With the turn signal assy removed, I can then get the wheel on, but only then.
Thanks for the reply.

I am assuming that the wheel is supposed to be held on by the 3/4 inch nut?? I am not sure though.
Thanks again.

Kevan, the nut I believe is only about a quarter of an inch thick.

Is the wheel GM or after market?? Do you have the correct hub for wheel??
Something dont sound right? The reason I ask is the Hubs for the GM three bar
Rosewood which was a option that year are hard to find ?

The wheel I purchased is a 3 bar wheel, but is not rosewood. It is Chrome with a black wheel. I think it is a GM factory wheel, it looks old. It ahs the horn buttons in the 2 spokes of the wheel. It has a cap in the middle that says Chevelle.
Thanks again for the help.

The outer housing can be moved up or down as much as you seem to need here. Remove the cover plate and loosen the support clamp at the dash. The outer housing can be moved up or down enough to achieve the fit you want. It can also be adjusted up or down to achieve the gap spacing between the wheel and the housing - while the shaft stays as it is. Good Luck with it.
