I broke in the new solid lifter UD grind today in my 540. I think I had the timing advanced a bit more than I wanted. I got a full 15 min at 1700 to 2000 rpm, but the water temp went to 220 so I shut it down. I waited about an hour and ran it again for about 10min at 1600 to 1800 rpm. Then waited a half hour and idled down to set the timing at 38 deg idle timing was about 12 deg at idle. Is this enough breakin and is it safe to Idle down the way I did it? Do I need to go over the vaves again? It really idles nice and when I cracked the throttle to 4000 rpm the drgas x-pipe sounds insane.

By all means readjust the valves.They are likely to come out of adj frequiently for a while.This is quite normal as most all solid lifter cams tend to do that.
After a while they will " Take a set " and then stay adj for a good long period of time.Also change your oil and filter to get out any of the wear metals that just got put into the oil from breaking in the cam.

Then take it out and drive it! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
