I have 2.5 inch pipe to the rear bumper running flowmaster super 40 mufflers. I am going to put on some dynomax headers soon and i was wondering if putting dumps right after the muffler and taking off the tailpipes would make it alot louder? thanks

Sounds Like a candidate for them, I love em, "cackling, Cop-calling" W/D/T Continental style perforated inner core glasspacks!

PS., just put tailpipes on her out the back AND drive off and listen to the cackle!!

Adding dumps will definitely make it louder, I use to have the same setup as you except I have Hooker comp headers and when I added dumps to it it made it twice as loud and deeper. Keep in mind it will be louder inside your 71 like Robert said and it will make alot of dust blow around on your car when you drive through dusty areas.

PS, If you want it to be louder than the Flowmasters with dumps add Dynomax race magnum bullets with dumps. This is what I have and it is damn loud, when you floor it it SCREAMS  . I would not recomend these for a daily driver.

I have coated dynomax 1 5/8's headers to a 2.5" exhaust with an x pipe to 40 flowmasters that dump right after ( see here (http://chevelle.ogleonline.com/pictures/chevelles/cord/fullshot.jpg) ) Now I like loud so for me when your driving the interior is fine the only time it is loud in side is at low RPM the resonating is real bad and is very loud till about 2k. As for the outside sound I wouldn't know since I am the only one that drives it :D

I have headmen headers 2.5 inch pipe into a x-pipe then out into some 3 inch inlet and out let flowmasters (My dad made me get them, I would have gotten boarla.)and the "dump" metal pieces are welded straight to the outlet of the muffler. At idle I set off car alarms and cruzen its beautiful it turns heads, but with the interior complete you don't get annoying headach cabbin noise. graemlins/thumbsup.gif I have never been pulled over for the exhaust noise, and trust me I get on it. The thing is if you want loud exhaust, don't put in full piping to the bumper, but if you like the look of the exhaust coming out the back and am planning on getting the full tubing, then don't get a h-pipe or x-pipe, they make the car sound more balanced and mellow with full pipes out the back.
And as for the dust with dumps, I have had no problems when I drive in the dirt,my best friend lives on a farm and I'm always there. Just make sure that your floor has no rust holes.
Sorry I think I'm done babbling now. :D

If you want louder try the Twister Race Mufflers. You'll never complain again about it not being loud enough :D

I got mine from Bucky's (Austin) Muffler
