Got a 72 chevelle with a 355 sbc 4 bolt block, good cast crank, Holley 650 DP, Holley 300-36 dual plane manidold, TH-400, and a 10 bolt with 4.11 gears, headers are 1 5/8" primaries. Car will use 28"X10" slicks at the track. Want to run a solid flat tappet camshaft. What heads and camshaft and converter do you think would be able to get this heavy car in the high 12's. Thanks.

I agree with Mr 4 speed. The AFRs are hard to beat. I think mid-12s are in easy reach. I would run a 10 inch converter. Alot of folks on this link have had good luck with Harolds cams and you should do a search to see what else people have run similiar to your setup. I would try for about 10-1 compression and run a good exhaust.

I placed an order for a set of AFR 180's last week for my 355. I'm going with a Comp solid, XS262S, 224/230 @ .050, .477/.488 lift. I'm going with the mild cam because I like my 2000 stall and 3.42's for street driving. I'm hoping for something like 13.25 @102mph in my rig, weighs about 3850 with driver. You can probably go 12's with a little more cam, gear, and converter than I'm using, like Chris says, but heads are the key. Based on a lot of research, I'm going with the AFR180's even though they are a little pricey.

You didn't mention what compression you are dealing with.
