I want to thank you guys for the responses about my question regarding swapping out my 327 with a 454. As I move ahead with this project, I went to mount my new edelbrock fuel pump. First I pulled my small block pump off to get the pushrod out to use in the Big block. I think I read somewhere that this is permissable. Anyway, the problem is that this pushrod won't go in all the way. There is some interference that won't allow the pushrod to slide all the way in to the cam. This is a '78 454 block. Anyone know what is happening here? I appreciate the help.

Roll the pushrod across a flat surface, see if it's bent.

You should be able to look up in the hole with a flashlight to see if there's anything in there.

Turn the engine over a little as it sounds like your on the high part of the cam's fuel pump lobe. Just make sure your distributer is already installed so you don't have to find TDC again.
