Posted in engines - thought better to move it here since this is where I first got the carb repair data.

How do I test my Carter mechanical? My simplistic approach to things tells me to take the plugs out (carb's already off); put a small shot of some type of oil in each cylinder, and then crank her over and see what's coming out of the fuel line. Is this a proper "caveman" test? The pump is 110gph, supposedly 4-7psi but they could have put a higher pressure pump on without THINKING, which seems to be the problem with details on this car. I just want to make sure the pump is okay. I cannot yet find any of the normal problems that supposedly show up in the float bowls when you take a 4150 apart. At a minimum, I thought I would see some little bits of junk or trash or whatever - but nada.

An earlier suggestion for my carb spitting fuel out the vent tubes was too much pressure. I will test that also, but I kind gotta get the car running first.

Let me know if I'm making this harder on myself than necessary.

Best,

Mike

I would just go down to SAAS and get a fuel regulator/pressure guage combo and start her up.
