Hi,
This site has been very helpful in getting ideas,
and I ran at the 1/8 mile track for the first time last night.Drove round trip to the track, over 150miles, although I would probably build a motor nextime, I purchased a zz 502, and I think I may have gotten a good one. Here's my combo 72 nova, zz 502, air gap intake, 825 race demon, cal tracs, bfg dragradials,3.73 gears,350 trans, everything is pretty much bolted on, no tuning or adjusting yet. Here's what I ran.

1st time trial
1.9760ft
7.95@92.17 mph
had 18 psi in tires left off idle.

2nd time trial
1.86 60ft
7.69@93.0 mph.
only change 16 psi.

1st round eliminations
1.65 60ft
7.46@86.21 mph, on the brakes pretty hard.
15.5 psi in tires, little burnout.
dialed a 7.65, bad breakout.

I really didn't change anything but tire pressure, and they spun on the last pass too.
Good news is I had a riot, and didn't break anything, but I have to say the car is faster than I thought........Any suggestions???
I think there is a lot on the table....
Thankyou for all the help.
(can't wait till next year when the cam I bought off blauuboer goes in)

Your times sound about right depending on your elevation. When I replaced the cam with just a bit bigger (245/254) it dropped a little over .5 in the qtr. That should be your next engine upgrade!

JYD have you ever run drag radials? once you find the pressure thats right for your car, they are pretty damn consistent, and they hook. They don't last as long as slicks, but its nice to be able to race or drive on the street "legally " with the same tires. I've gone 1.64/11.85/113mph on drag radials thru the exhaust, 60ft time in sig is with slicks...BFG's were slightly better.

Rapid Robert, It sounds like JYD has quite a bit of power. My son couldn't even begin to hit the ground on BFG Drag radials in his '70 Chevelle. It takes a ton of suspension work to get a high powered, stock suspension car to work on the drag radials.

I now Todd(10secbu) is running mid 10's with them, granted he's improved his rear suspension quite a bit. I have a friend that runs in the drag radial class,he's running 9.70's and better with them, over 500 cubic inches, but he spins slicks too smile.gif its been stood on the rear bumper with drag radials. He still doesnt know how fast it will go with a 300 shot.

sorry if i afinded you ,no i havent run drag radials no need to i drag race so race slicks are all i need.i have hered that the radials hook preety good after the treads is worn off though.i still say try a set of slicks and see if it isnt more consitant also track prep goes along way to hooking and consitancy also whitch most of us have no control over

Last time out with slicks my 60's were 1.74-1.79,next time out with drag radials my 60's were 1.76-1.78 then a 1.73 after the sun went down, yesterday my 60's were 1.76-1.78 on drag radials, hot sunny day,,,two tech card race,so we were hot lapping pretty good,,,made 7 passes all within .06 street/strip Chevelle on drag radials. Too bad the damn driver had his head in his A$$ graemlins/clonk.gif

i have a buddy who is doing 60ft times in the mid 1.40's on a 275/60 M/T Drag Radial. the car goes mid 6's in the 1/8mi. it's a 67 camaro with stock style suspension and it weighs over 3500lbs. nothing special about the suspension either, just ordinary bolt on stuff. Cal-Tracs, drag shocks, trick springs, pretty much it.

My son's '70 Chevelle spun a set of BFG Drag Radials the entire 1/4 mile and said it was all over the strip. Slicks and M/T - E.T. streets don't hold it too well either until their heated up. The BFG's didn't have much tread left on them at the end of the run.
