Hi,
this might sound crazy. I am building a very low budget nitrous motor. I acquired a set of roller lifters today that are like brand new. here is the thing... They came out of a boat motor. I know they are regular gm motors. the lifters are the kind that have flats gorund in and are kept from spinning by a plate that sits on top of them. the plates are held down by a tray that is bolted to the center of the lifter valley. Is this a normal style roller set up? can this be used on a old style non roller block? can I get by without machining the block for the guide plates to sit on? can I adhere the tray to the lifter valley with some kind of jb weld or something? what are the limits of a stock roller lifter for a 350? I know a boat runs at mostly wot all the time, which is about 5000 rpm. Anybody got any ideas on the matter?
thanks

This is a factory roller block you are describing, and no those lifters can't be used on an older block. To use roller lifters you need to get the retrofit roller lifters with the link bar, or find a newer roller block.

That sounds like a factory style OEM roller lifter. No,it is not designed to work in a pre '86 non roller block. The older blocks do not have the taller lifter bores with the flats on top for the guides or mounting provisions for the retainer.

lifter bores in old blocks are too short. You can't really work around that. I put a lot of thought into trying that on a small block, which has the same problem.
