I would like to know if anybody out there has used the isky Z33 or Z45 soild cam for the big block chevy. I am thinking about using the z45 for my 10.1 454 oval port engine. If so how does it sound? It has a nice profile here is the link for the timing

I'm not familiar with the Z33 or Z45 that you are asking about, but I'm running a CR about 10.1 to 10.2-1 454 with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and the Isky rr-620 solid roller. Here is the link to the timing chart. It has an idle that sounds like "If you touch me, I'll eat ya" and it pulls Real hard through out the power band 2800-6400 rpm with absolutely no hesitation.
I do need a vacuum canister for my power brakes though.

Several years ago I sold a guy an Isky Z-33 for his 70 Chevelle 396.He had a RP 11-1 type 396 with a Richmond 5 speed and 3.55's as I recall..... He wanted a solid that he could drive everyday and still be rough ideling and run strong. It has a noticable rough idle... you cant hide it... it's lopey. He drove the **** out of that thing.... So it was quite reliable and was running deep in the 11's with it.... Ran well but he had pleny of gear and no converter issues.... If used with an auto trans it WILL NEED a looser converter and some stiff gearing.

I'm running the Z-33. It was recommended to me by my machinist. I was really wanting to run the UD/Lunati 288/296 but was worried about the P/V clearance. I'm very happy with the Z-33. It does "sound" tuff. My first (and only)time to the track I ran 7.99 @ 89mph with absolutely no tuning and 90 degree temps. I think I can tune it down at least 2-3 tenths. It's probably not "the perfect" cam for my combo, but it's pretty darn good. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Definitely NOT the Z33, with 250@.050, I should think it would prefer more gear. The 240@.050 cam seeems fine.

Gene is probably right, I've got 3.73's and it's got alot of bottom end but would probably benefit from the 4.10's I've got on the shelf.....
