Does this E stamp indicate an Eaton Positraction?

Think I read somewhere that a letter following the assembly code on a rear end is the shift ID, B= second shift at the rearend plant. I'm sure someone may be able to clarify. hope that helps some Andy

Don'tcha just love this code stuff!! My research showed that the suffix stamped letter on the tube was supposed to indicate the assembly plant for the axles. There is sometimes an additional number that may define which shift it was assembled on, or so I've read....

On posi axles, the Posi source (E for Eaton) would be stamped just below the assembly code on the axle tube.
I don't have any idea what the E stamped in this pic means. If there is also an E on the tube then it may be just redundant but if there is not E on the tube below the assembly date code then I would say its not an indication of an E posi.

I too have this 'E' stamped there. and FWIW it has the Eaton posi. I'm saying that what it means, it's just what I have. Also, I'm not a 100% but I'm pretty sure there's an 'E' on the tube as well.

I added a pic of the axle tube stamping - no E there.

B is Buffalo, NY. Agree with Mike, the E for Eaton is usually stamped below the ID code/date/plant and agree with Dan, I don't think a shift number was added until the 70 model year. Maybe this is a duplicate stamping for Eaton or maybe added after it was stamped when realized it was an Eaton posi., or C, none of the above. ;)
